A typo in an ini file was keeping part of the game's AI from functioning as it should. Civ VI supposedly had something similar:

Oh wow. I'm not a programmer but I have a hard time understanding how a typo could cause such a screw up with the AI like that! Crazy.

Something as simple as "if foo = 1" when it should have been "if foo = 0".
If 'foo' is something like the variable that determines when the unit should stop being passive and start being aggressive, that typo could mean the unit never goes aggressive.

My monitor has some glare at this time of day, and I thought the title was "Flying hippo in Aliens: Colonial Marines improves AI". And I thought, this I gotta see.

Wow this is pretty interesting. I've been using the Templar mod and have been enjoying the game for the most part. I think I'm running an older version so I'd like to check out any new version that has this fix. Or maybe I can leave it as is and do the ini edit myself unless its more involved than that. I don't want to mess up anything at this point in an already finicky game.

Is the game worth 3 bucks after the fix?

I bought it for the cooperative game mode which was fun. It was worth the 5 bucks I paid.

I play it solo and enjoy it with the Templar mod. I never dealt with the original release but from what I have played its been fun with some great environments. Its a decent Alien-themed FPS. I also play Alien VS. Predator 2010 which is pretty good. I really hope someday they make and Alien Isolation 2. That game is probably the best Alien game I've played and has become a favorite game just in general.

Alien Isolation is a text book example of how you make an alien game. It's in a completely different class all by itself!

Colonial Marines is a text book example of how you DON'T make an alien game.
