Very interesting read on what settings to use with a G-sync monitor: G-sync 101 Link

CPU = i9 11900K
GPU = RTX 3080 Ti
Monitor = ASUS ROG Swift PG32UQX 2160p G-sync

I used them on PRs recommendation and I have to say that regular flying is smoother. I get some stutters when using Shadowplay to record with this setting so maybe I need to look into Shadowplay more, but for regular gaming I highly recommend V-Sync ON if using a G-Sync monitor.

Regarding G-sync preferred refresh rate, which is better for WOFF - highest available or application controlled?

With my monitor (2160x1440) 144 Hz, it means the same.

The game will play at what ever Hz that I put as the refresh rate in the NVidia Control Panel whether it be "Highest Available" or "Application Controlled" (I use 85 Hz so it is above 60 Hz but still constant at 85 Hz 99.99% of the time).

The only way I can get the game to play above my G-sync monitor's Refresh rate setting (24, 60, 85, 100, 120, or 144) is to change the Workshop VSync setting from "Driver Setting" to "Force Off", and then the game can run up above 300 FPS.

My monitor is the same. So both settings will give the same results.

Forgive my ignorance but what's the advantage of 85 Hz instead of 144? Reduced stutters because it doesn't jump up and down so much?

The difference is that at 144 Hz (or 100, 120 Hz) you have more of swings in FPS as the game processes items that you see and do not see, so it can look like micro-stutters as it swings from high to low.

At 85 Hz, the FPS stay the same 99.99% of the time, so the game "looks" smoother overall even if the game is actually smoother at a higher Hz, (if it could just stay up there all the time).

The reason I pick 85 Hz versus 60 Hz, it that gives me a 25 FPS cushion if there are any swings, versus no cushion at 60 FPS.

Thanks PR, I'll give 85 Hz a try.

Post back after you form an opinion about 85 Hz, I would like to hear what you think.

I use 85Hz also. Not decided upon by any direct technical reason, simply did not want to tax the video card trying to run 144Hz, but wanted something more than 60Hz.
Works good for me even as I run 7780x1140 resolution, on my lone 980ti.
Some times it drops some some, but its never been enough to affect the operation of WOFF.

After several flights I would say that 85 Hz works better for me, but not significantly better. It's all good. I get good performance with it at 85 or 144.

My main motivation was to eliminate the stutters that I've always gotten around cities. It's better at 85 Hz but not much. I just pause and pan around with an external view a few times and then the problem is gone. Not a big deal. Thanks for the tip.
