sorry im a bit confuse about EAW 160 install, do we still need the EAW master ? as i did install EAW160 special GR and can only run quick mission and already start in the air
So do i need to install master stock EAW and patch 1.2 as well?

So which one should i install first? 1.60 foundation , 1.60 barebones or SpecialGR first?
I only install SpecialGR 160 but not those foundation and barebones
when i click EAW.exe the game runs and i was already start in the air and no menu to change it

Try the v1.60 Foundation pak. (You dont need the original EAW CD).


The SpecialGR has its menus removed.
The Barebones should be the same as the foundation pak.

So those 3 are different stuff (barebones,foundation and specialGR), i did follow jelly instruction but im still confuse with the others you mention barebones and foundation. I thought it was a whole pack to install into one folder installation with specialGR
i really want to play campaign or single mission especially in the ETO and still need guide which version had the most complete in the campaign or single mission?

Try just downloading the foundation pack a unzipp it

If you want the campaign, then maybe v1.2 is best.

From what I understand the campaign could have issues with later versions.
But maybe the Foundation pack is an alternative for campaign use, as it includes the ETO theater.

I honestly haven't used the campaign more than a few times in the older v1.40 (not to confuse you more)
I currently have a v1.60 installed, but its an early release of it from when Jel started posting it.

I can run campaign with special GR with only replacing EAW.exe foundation into special GR but seems the campaign is in pacific
Btw is the older version 1.40 still use 2D pit? seems 2D still much better from what i've seen

2D cockpits are only still in v1.28 I THINK. Later versions completely removed the ability to view them (however they load into memory)
They are only view able at 640x480 resolution setting in stock EAW and the early v1.2x versions.

I just download 1.29 in signature col.gibbon but seems always crash to desktop when click fly mission (i did install master EAW in full ) and drop 1.29 inside master EAW and overwrite the original file, is that the correct step Mark?
also is 1.29 still using 2D pit ? yes too bad 2D pit only max 640x480 res i just know it right now

to do a new install in 1.2 you Do Not follow the install instructions from the manual. Remove that install using Windows program and uninstall feature then make a new folder and copy the contents of your EAW disc into it. Once having done that I recomend making a backup folder for it. That way you don't have to recopy from your disc. Then put in the 1.29 upgrade. The game setup follows the manual, you can assign controls etc. (That bit remains the same regqrdless of the exe version you use. I have a setup from 1.2 through Mr. Jelly's versions on my machine.)

If you got v1.29 from Col.Gibbon, then you just unzipp it and run it. (you don't need the disc)

I'm not sure if it has the 2D pits. v1.2 does have them however.
Like iron mike says you copy the files from the CD to a new folder on your hard drive. (you do not use install programs)

EAWPRO is an unofficial upgrade which can be added to a FULL install of v1.1 or v1.2 of the original game, or better a copy of your CD onto your drive. It has full 2D cockpit functionality. All you have to do is to extract this ZIP into the game's rootfolder. where the EAW.EXE resides and allow overwrites, a reboot after install is adviced. An EAW.INI is included with entries for a NoCD/NoOS version and screenresolution is set to 1024 x 768 by default (change if necessary).

It can be obtained from this link at Mark's website:

You may or may not need the 3D Windower program to get it working if you can't run it in D3D mode or encounter error 7217 (no EAW screensupport in graphics card).

Mark's website also has a full description of the changes in EAWPRO. Hope that suffices to get you back on track again. Good luck!

I did try using both nglide zeus and DXwind but seems always CTD when click fly mission with col gibbon 1.29 version but the other version works like charm

Mark is hosting my latest released EAWPRO version, if it's working then there's no need for other files. There is a seperate set of v1.2 campaign files for it which you'll need if you're going to fly campaignmode. You will loose the large targetset and the flyable bombers, but the v1.2 targets are the only set which will allow unhindered campaign play. It also restores the original v1.2 flightmodels, all other EAWPRO features will remain. Adding the set to the 1.29 version may probably also work, but perhaps Mark knows better.

Just extract the .ZIP into (a copy of) your EAWPRO gamefolder, where the EAW.EXE resides and allow overwrites.
BTW you can have multiple copies of EAW on your drive but the use of a registry cleaner may have an adverse effect as filepointers may be pointed to another install if the game finds any files missing. Other version's files are NOT compattible with EAWPRO in some cases. However you can reload/reinstall the original EAWPRO files to restore functionality.

Hey VBH. I was wondering if your where going to chime in about EAWPRO. I totally forgot about the 1.2 target set for for FXEXE.
Adding the target set to 1.29, IDK if it will work, been awhile since I read the changes they made.

Yeah i just did a very basic of running EAW modded version but i think i have to give up with installing another addons such skins,effects,terrain and other...GEEZZ it's so freakin me out just to learn it from the scratch!
I mean after looking at Mark mediafire directory file addons list and Tally-Ho is like i think i can't go in there and i can imagine your EAW Installation must big so HUGE with that plenty mods!
its just too many game mods right now in my head and why just not making A BIG ADVANCED EAW with huge modding inside in All in One Package! leaving with basic skins,effects and others and then seeing that plenty addons to install just make me already got lost somewhere...LOL, I love addons or mods but EAW addons is kinda different and more complex than any vintage ww2 flightsim like cfs2 , cfs3 or il-2.

Yeah you dont want to mess with the add-ons unless your using v1.2.

The other modded versions have replacement skins, data files etc...already.
