These are exciting times for WOFF UE. The Nemesis of the infamous blue triangles, beautiful new shading of the scenery into the distance, plus at last my head has stopped wobbling.. Many thanks to all the dedicated devs who have given us the basic WOFF system, and to those who have taken it to new heights (no pun intended).

However I do have one further question to ask. Are there any mods out there for sounds of the machine guns? I ask for two reasons, a) the twin "Spandaus" of the German Albatri, Plfazen, Fokkers etc sound oddly ragged, irregular even (especially when compared with regularity the twin Vickers of the corresponding Allied types), and b) none of the gun sounds seems to have the "assault on the ears" effect I recall from firing Bren guns and GPMGs back in my service days.

Or am I just being pernickity?

Thanks

Mike

When were you firing Bren guns, and how long were you in service that the transition from a 1940's weapon to a 1990's acronym like GPMG was being used?

Let's pretend I got the BWOC badge to embed here.

They made a change to the gun sounds in the Sopwith Pup and I love those new sounds. It would be cool to have new sounds for each of the other types of guns as well.

Hi Pilto,

I was in the RAF (engineer officer, later logistics officer) from 1972 to 1997. One important thing about the RAF (vs other “younger” air forces (not naming/shaming anybody here!)) is that with us, all ranks are trained from ab initio to actively defend our own air bases. Speaking frankly, we had long since learned and internalised the lessons of Crete 1941.

So in my time, we used Bren guns rechambered to fire NATO standard 7.62mm rounds (the magazine wasn’t quite as “bent” as the original WW2 0.303” version), and also used the GPMG (“Jimpi”) which was the standard British light/medium MG at the time. Plus all of my chaps were fully qualified on the 7.62mm SLR (= Belgian FN))(airmen only) or 9mm Sterling SMG (officers and SNCOs).

Hope that explains it.

Cheers

Mike

Is there a mod for it? Because I think I've seen it already in the current version.

Thanks.

the sounds have been made like that on purpose. The germans had the interrupter gear, which made the guns not fire while there was a propblade in the pathway. This is why it sounds irregular. While one gun is blocked, the other one still can shoot, sometimes both simulataneously, sometimes a bit off etc.

While the allies had the constantinesco gear, which made it always possible for both guns to shoot at the same time and with higher rate of fire.

Yes, there's a mod to remove the blue triangles, but you might as well wait a bit because a new version (1.4) will apparently be available soon.

Check out the blue triangles mod thread here - link

Very interesting, I'd never heard that. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks CH, that completely explains it. Another example of the exemplary historical verisimilitude of WOFF.
