Bought on sale because of favorable recent reports in official BoX forum. I was having trouble identifying targets with Rift. AI moving away would frequently disappear and not be re-identified in time to make appropriate counter move. Spotting AI is much easier using Odyssey. I am no longer forced to doggedly pursue turning AI since I feel reasonably confident I can re-acquire later. For that reason I can make better use of FW190 A5 strong points in 1v1 QM vs Spitfire Vb. No stuttering in low populated missions I’ve tried so far, given gtx 1080Ti, i7 at 3.8 GHz and SS at 1.5. Setup is quick compared to Rift. Tracking is equal to Rift with good room light. Instead of turning on overhead lights I’ve chosen to place a 100 lumen 4-bulb led lamp between keyboard and monitor base. For BoX that setup gives ideal motion tracking without need for any external tracking cameras. Positioning lenses takes more fiddling than Rift. I generally start with solo QM, parked. That gives opportunity to adjust hmd position for best sharpness of cockpit details and external objects. Wheel ipd adjustment seems superior to Rift method. I set mine at the minimum. So far no sense of eye strain that had recently become evident using Rift. Odyssey is physically bulky but feels light in use. Wheel adjustment for head mount is again appreciated here. YouTube videos stating leather facing for Odyssey visor are likely in error. I suspect a vinyl facing on foam base. Does not absorb perspiration but will likely deteriorate over time and also collect oils from skin/hair. Inexpensive balaclavas from Amazon wick moisture away from headset and are easily hand washed. Headphones and mic are at least as good as what the Rift provides. At this point in time, if I were only going to be using vr for BoX, I would not recommend the Rift.
