When I fly German, especially, I’m in a jasta with mixed equipment. Fir example I’m currently flying with Jasta 5, Alabatros DIII and DII. But when I fly out in autopilot the DIIIs inevitable, with their faster speed, fly ahead of me, on a long leg, quite a bit. Why can’t the AI regulate speed by the slower machine be? It seems to be set by the fastest. Or maybe it’s just me?

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say, It's just you.

Let's pretend I got the BWOC badge to embed here.

It's not just you, Nowi. The older machines can't seem to keep pace with the faster ones and my guess is that while WOFF UE allows for mixed aircraft flights, it doesn't account for speeds between various flight members, though it can take into account speed of slower recon aircraft when faster scouts are flying high cover. I have no idea if its something that can be adjusted. You'd have to ask the smart modders like JJJ65, Robert Wiggins, etc. Would be nice to resolve if it can be done.

I have never done it but I think using the Mission Editor the speeds can be tweaked.

My plan is, when falling behind the pack, keep a sharp eye out for EA and catch up by cutting corners, when the main flight makes turns.

I've also run into the occasional issue with the AI while running Autopilot. One potential solution is to check the box in the workshop for "Player Always Leads" under formation settings. I did have a pretty massive issue with the Esc Laf squadron down in Alsace early in the war. Lost an entire flight on a Balloon Busting sortie because they kept flying into the darn mountains. Will have to be more vigilant next time - or just be flight lead until we transfer out of there.

IMHO this issue has been alteady fixed by one of WOFF UE updates.
AI is programmed to climb to preselected altitude on maximum power. As soon as the preplanned altitude is reached, AI slows down to preplanned speed. There is possible, with help of Mission Editor, to alter preplanned cruise speeds in respect to slowest aircrfat in formation, but I do not know how to limit AI climb to altitude behaviour yet.

This.

The game can't use your brain for you.
