Just a note to let my friends and members here know, I'll not be posting or moderating anymore, due to illness. NFI due to the public nature of the internet. A PM to OG will be the only contact I'll get. I've got a few weeks left. Lots of things to take care of, selling the house.....etc....no time to post.
Appreciate all the friends and great people I''ve known here.
Oldgrognard and CyBerkut can certainly take up the slack. The keys are on the file cabinet next to the door guys.
Time for me to leave. I'm happy for the quality time I've had. Seen and done way more than anyone should have. Lived during the "Best of Times". We should ALL be grateful.
The only bad thing is, when you leave, you hurt the ones you love.
There are people here who will be with me till the day I leave. Thank you.

I’m so sorry to hear this Murphy. I will keep you in my thoughts and hope that everything works out for the best somehow. I don’t believe that hope is ever, ever completely gone.

Geez! I just finished reading the post by Airdrop. Sorry to hear it.

S! The sorry thing about getting old is people start leaving you until its your turn. By that time, I'm not sure I'm going to mind journey. D@mned it if don't creep up on you sooner than you think.

Wow, very sad to hear Murphy, and anything I could say in a forum post seems inadequate, but I can't help but say that I hope your time is spent with the people you love and who care about you, and I wish only the best for you and your family.

Murphy, I'm so sorry to hear this news. My mind went back over the years, our PMs and discussions.
Thanks again, I appreciate those discussions, and your contributions on this forum. And thanks again for your work in real life. You and your loved ones will be in my thoughts and prayers.

It seems like only yesterday that you and I were fumbling our way thru our first PC builds with the help of the folks on the Hardware and Software forum.
You know that you and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.
I know there is a P-51D waiting for you at the other end my friend.
Thank you for being a friend I sadly have never really met, for all these years.
You will be missed Murphy, you will be missed...

I have been struggling these last few days and seeing this makes me humbled. I'm 58 just to put that thought into context. I would like to know what to say, but I don't really know you, as most of us really know each other. Maybe we think more about it as we get older, we start to feel more mortal (I know I am). But, we are all here together. We are here for you. There is a good community here. I believe the Good Book says Wherever you are gathered Together in my name There I will be also. This community here all lifting you up. God Bless

Sorry to hear this, Murphy. You’ll be in my thoughts.
Thanks for being one of those who made this site a great place to be.
In all my years I've never seen the like. It has to be more than a hundred sea miles and he brings us up on his tail. That's seamanship, Mr. Pullings. My God, that's seamanship!
Wow, just returned home from 2 week vacation out west. So sad to hear this news. Murphy was always a good friend to me. Take care in the next life. Might be meeting you there some day.
Fair winds and following seas Murphy, I haven't been here for a while but I am saddened by this news, I've read posts from SimHQ since 2001 and the news from Airdrop01 and yourself struck a chord.
It is good that you have enjoyed your days.

That Farrow bloke you executed today, are you sure he's dead? Well I chopped his head off, that usually does the trick. Yes, don't get clever with me Baldrick. I just thought you might have lopped off a leg or something by mistake. No, the thing I chopped off had a nose.
I rarely visit here anymore, because I've become too jaded and hateful of the modern state of the simulation genre, that I never play them anymore. Seems like every time I visit, there's another one of us passing on, or on the final leg of their flight plan. I guess we're a dying breed. Best wishes Murph.
I refuse to buy a flight sim that I have no interest in playing, on the off chance that MAYBE someday they'll make the one I really want to play.
I am sorry to hear this. Godspeed, I loved your stories about being a cop in Detroit in the 1970's. Must have been a wild ride. I'd love for you to post a photo, I collect them of members so I can remember them.

Murph posted his sad anouncement two months ago. He wrote that he only had a few weeks left. Hard to say, but he is probably gone. I'm 66. Not horribly old by today's standards but it still causes me to contemplate my own mortality as the years fly by. Family members pass. Freinds, also. I'm not a religious man at all, but I still can't help wondering what happens to us when it's over. Maybe nothing. We'll only know when we, inevitably, go too. When we hear that someone has died I always say to my wife, "Well, now they know the big secret." I think Murph may know, now, too.

I just spoke to him. He has outlasted the prognosis.
He is a very proud and private man and I respect his outlook. As part of that, I can’t say anything more. It is his choice as to what he wants everyone to know.

You were there a couple of times when I went off the rails and I appreciated that so much. We had some great public discussions, and some private ones also. I think we have a serious connection from being from two sides of the same coin. You and I understood and respected each other, even though our lifestyles differed so very much at times...doesn't matter.
God bless you and yours my friend....and I miss you man.

Thanks for the update OG. Hopefully he doesn't need reminding but let him know when you speak to him again, as I suspect that you already have, that he has many friends that are deeply concerned for him.
Prayers for you all the time, even though I'm not online too much.
All the best,
Andrew.
Kindest regards,
AJ

Thank you for sharing that news OG.

Everyone has his or her own feelings about coping with life's "ups and downs" and I respect Murphy's decision but I'm going to throw this out here for what it is worth: in my battle with cancer last year coming here and reading encouraging words from you people was a tremendous help to me.

I know I don't know Murphy, but I have a great deal of respect for the work he did as a LEO in the Detroit area. He was in there during some tough times.
Just wanted to say many thanks to Murphy, I only just heard of his poor health and just wanted to say thank you to a gentleman. Hope he can enjoy being with his family some.

As a Newbie, I never interacted with the man, but he sure seems to have a lot of friends here, and that says something powerful. All my prayers and best wishes, Murphy.

I am the bearer of sad news. Murphy just died. He was able to finalize all his plans to ensure that his wife is in good financial condition. His daughter is very successful and financially independent. His wife is moving in with his daughter and son-in-law until she decides what she wants to do.
A good man in the most sincere meaning.
He was my friend and will be missed.

Salvation is his now. We mourn for our missing him but our loss is his gain now.

Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me. Matthew 5:11
Indeed we call blessed those who have persevered. You have heard of the perseverance of Job, and you have seen the purpose of the Lord, because “the Lord is compassionate and merciful. James 5:11
Such tragic news. Most sincere and heartfelt sympathy to the family.

Deeply saddened to hear this news. I considered him a good friend even though we never got the opportunity to meet one another in person. I will miss him greatly. Blue skies Murphy, I hope they have IL-2 in heaven so you can continue your daily flights in your beloved P-51.

This is now three people from SimHQ who have passed away who I considered to be a friend.
“Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you.”
Very sorry to hear that. Though i only knew him from this forum i think he was one of the cornerstones here, and a good man. Rest in peace. My condolences to his family and friends.
Godspeed Murphy. Although I did not know the man in person, I knew enough of him from his words for him to earn my utmost respect. And from what I know, a life well-lived which is all anyone can ask for.
I didn't know this chap, but I feel the affection and respect shown for him here will go down as part of his legacy. I hope that his nearest and dearest will somehow have access to this thread and read how he was held in esteem here.
RIP Murphy. A good man through and through, and a pillar of this community.

I had more than a few public and private talks with Murphy.
I had long hoped that some day we could meet in person, have a few...drinks, laughs, discussions, whatever. I should have visited him some years ago when I had the time and the means.
Great guy and, no doubt an even greater husband and father who spent his working life protecting honest folks in a MEAN city.
Again, goodbye my friend.
I now have PM's saved from PositiveG, Destructis and now Murphy. None from Ming sadly and, I am afraid he may not be with us anymore either.
Three, maybe four of our best.
Fly well friends, and if you have a chance to visit with a friend here, take it.

He was traveling in my area a year or two ago and we talked about meeting up, but his schedule wouldn't allow it. Wish we'd been able to. He was one of the first people to welcome me here at Sim HQ. Going to miss you Murphy.

Man i always wondered what happened to Ming? I never knew there was any issues, he just sort of disappeared. Maybe it was when i had my long break and i missed it all??
Thanks for posting the obituary link. I'm glad it was shared.
Murphy and I shared several PMs in years past, and I had to respect him for the clarity and his commitment to the words he wrote me. It's fantastic to read that obituary about Murphy, and realize that he was even greater as a man, husband, and father in life, than he was as I knew him behind our pseudonyms here on the internet.

Thanks OG for posting the obituary. I never spoke to Murphy nor do I think we ever even exchanged PMs , but he always seemed like a good man. His obituary confirms that.

Today I have to think of good old Murphy, who brought me to this forum. It was one year ago that he passed.. I hope he rests in peace. Putting up a candle and having a beer.

I never knew Murphy personally but I could just tell he was a wonderful guy. Call it instinct.
