This game was kickstarted 2013 and went live for preorder 2014. It's had a long and wild ride with significant changes in design.
It just now had a release out of early access into full release mode.
It's really good! Not 100% sim but not a random arcade racer either. I'd say its about 75% sim with 25% crazy fun. We've been having a lot of fun with it on Friday nights with the AGW crowd.
If you are on the fence about it I'd say give it a go. It's got a fairly indepth career mode and you earn money to buy cars and exp to unlock racing parts for the cars. For MP you can also rent any of the regular cars as stock and the game takes a small percentage of your winnings (like 10-25%). So if you dont want to mess with career or buying / customizing your cars then you dont have to (for MP and quick race.)
But it is a LOT of fun!
It works great with a controller and pretty good with a wheel. The force feedback isnt on par with the higher quality modern sims. But it does support analog handbrake and h pattern shifters. It does not support trackir or VR but there is analog view movement if you have a thumb stick or left right rear buttons.
I bought the early access some years ago and I only played a little. I enjoy the demolition derby stuff with the great physics. The little I played was also years ago so I have no idea what it looks or plays like now. Its one of those EA games that baffled me a bit but mainly because I never kept up with it. That lawnmower Santa Claus thing that they put out also confused me and turned me off but from what I see it looks like the finished product is pretty well received. I'll have to download the release version and check it out and see how far along its come. I bought it because I liked what little I played of Flatout. I just like the driving and physics of these kinds of games.
It's from the same team that did the flatout series. In flatout there was a bunch of mini games where you tried to launch your driver over a high jump pole or onto a dart board to score points etc. So that was just them making something fun and random for the holidays. There isnt anything like that in the actual game.
I've been watching it on Twitch the past week,I haven't laughed so much for ages.
I didn't know the team that made Flatout were behind this,I was pondering on its similarity a few times. I really enjoyed Flatout, well the first 2 anyway, the rest were garbage.
Oh I will have to get this, not so much for myself but to race a friend of mine I've known since 1983.
He is KING OF DESTRUCTION.
Not just in real life, but racing games too. I've probably raced him with nearly 50 different games over the years - he can race very well, but his REAL talent is somehow he manages to generate the most spectacular crashes. We've saved so many replays of his wrecks - I can't count how many times I'd exclaim "DUDE, I didn't even think this game could DO a wreck like that!"
Seriously, you can't even try to reproduce his wrecks.....
"Wreckfest". I'm already literally laughing as I type imagining what would happen with him driving it.....
Got this game way back when it first came out but quit playing because so many mods came out there was no vanilla servers. It looks way better now and is easier to drive than previously. You can easily create a server and populate with bots who are surprisingly human like in racing style.
