I had more fun flying co-ops, even crazy dogfight rooms, with IL2 than mostly anything before or since.
Had some really good times years ago with ARMA with the SimHQ gang but, flying has always been my favorite.
Really a Genre defining game.

Look for me on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook or Tic Toc...or anywhere you may frequent, besides SimHq, on the Global Scam Net. Aka, the internet. I am not there, never have been or ever will be, but the fruitless search may be more gratifying then the "content" you might otherwise be exposed to.

Yes, IL2 was a high water mark for me in online flying. Haven't found the same level of engagement since.
Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded — here and there, now and then — are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty. This is known as "bad luck.” -Robert Heinlein
105 squadron flew IL2 for a few years but we never got the same enjoyment as we did with EAW and we eventually sort of "faded away" It was a very good combat sim but somehow it never seemed to "capture the spirit" for me at least. I actually had EAW on my PC for several years after I had deleted IL2

The IL-2 series has a very special place in my heart. I put hundreds of hours into that sim and all of its subsequent add-ons. It’s crazy to think that the original IL-2 came out 17 years ago.

For me, IL-2 was such a breath of fresh air at the time because all of the prior WW 2 flight sims were either set on the Westrn Front or the Pacific.
Can anyone think of any Eastern Front flight sim before IL-2?

Lol nice move, Nothing has changed with online flying in all these years. The urge to bring the kill home more often than not ends up biting the aggressor in the butt. The toughest thing to do is disengage when you have someone on their last legs.
I kinda miss it... depends on the server and plane set... if LA7's in the server then hell fkking no... Oleg just seem to think it had a PW220 in them..
Great videos Dart! Both had me laughing. Some nice Doc Watson in the second as well. I've been looking for my DVD of IL-2 1946 so I can practice some carrier landings (never got proficient trying to land that Corsair), but ever since my wife cleaned out the mancave for me it's been missing in action...

Available on Steam very cheap. In fact I bought it on sale last week for about $3.
