That guy hitting the building wall is probably the most brutal racing accident I've seen in a while.

As an ex armature road racer and a motorcycle mechanic, I rank the IoM racers right up there with fighter jocks. Doesn't the IoM still hold the record for the most killed?

I moved over there with my family for a few years back in the late 90's to work, I tell ya, it's a bit sobering when you see the emergency chopper flying in and out of Noble’s Hospital non stop during TT fortnight.

I remember one older gent I worked with who was Manx born and bred and obviously loved his fast bikes, one journey from Douglas to Ramsey over the mountain stretch in the works van with him at the wheel had me so scared I really thought my time had come.

Between 1907 and 2018 there have been 147 fatalities during official practices or races on the Snaefell Mountain Course, and 255 total fatalities (this number includes the riders killed during the Manx Grand Prix, and Clubman TT race series of the late 1940s/1950s).[7][46][47] In 2016, 5 riders died on the course during official practices or races, bringing the total number of fatalities to 252.[48][49][8][50] There were six fatalities among competitors in the 1970 Isle of Man TT, making it the deadliest year in the history of the event.[51][52]

Also, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Snaefell_Mountain_Course_fatalities

There was only 16 squadrons of RAF fighters that used 100 octane during the BoB.
The Fw190A could not fly with the outer cannon removed.
There was no Fw190A-8s flying with the JGs in 1945.

Not to take anything away from fighter pilots but I'd rank them beyond that (although it is an apples and oranges comparison I guess). These guys are nearly constantly in a state where just being a few milliseconds off on timing means a near certain crash.

I doubt even a carrier landing involves such sensitive timing - really the only thing that might be THAT timing sensitive would be a decision to eject......

Let's put it another way - I'd gladly ride with a pilot for a carrier landing. NO WAY would I hop on the back of a bike at IoM!

David Jefferies died in practice and it happened in 2003. Read the link Jim.

We may criticize this cavalier attitude now with our 21st century sensibilities but it was this same cavalier attitude that compelled men to get into Spitfires and Hurricanes to fight off huge armadas of bombers and fighters in 1940. smile

Leslie Graham was a bomber pilot in WW2. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leslie_Graham

Two women have also died, sidecar passengers.

Should have said 3. Pamela Cannell on a 250 Yamaha in '97.

The title of the video is mis-leading...some of those crashes are from previous years.

Thinking back, one of my customers was killed there in 1998.

The company I worked for had a long history of motorcycle racing, including a TT winner in the early 70's. This was before I joined but we got back into it again around 1980 although it was mainly club racing. We had great success with our Honda 350 twins. Great days.

Ice Cold in Alex or Eating in ...
and for the car drivers out there, a lap in a Scooby

Now I had a scooby, an '03 WRX STi PPP (Prodrive Performance Pack) but it was lower geared than the one in the above video, redline in 6th was 162mph and the car could hit that with ease, the car produced about 300bhp at the wheels from a 2.0l flat 4
