In my continuing quest to find the Perfect Wargame, I got this on a steam sale.

I'm starting to like it. Not love it yet, but like it.

It's pretty easy to figure out at first; there is a maddening problem of trying to figure out when to left click vs right click.

Pretty neat interface, lots of units.

The voices from the units are so cheesy it makes me want to turnoff the sound.

But so far, I'm enjoying it.

I cannot play it at real speed, I have to slow things down in order to keep up with things but I like it. I bought a second copy on the recent sales smile

I need to get back into it and learn more.

I love the Combat Mission: Battle for Normandy game but it was just too slow for me but then RTS games of this sort (Wargame series?) are too fast and I often accidentally neglect one side, so being able to adjust the speed of the game time makes Steel Division a good middle ground smile

I love taking out tanks with the AT guns but last time I played, they needed to really fix the tank AI, hope they got that sorted now.

I have all the WWII combat mission games, I really love playing them, despite their rather old technology...
With some of the great mods that are out there they still look pretty good as well.
Also, Mius front and Operation Star, plus Tank Warfare Tunisia are worth a look, but understanding the UI and the lack of proper instructions can make them a bit difficult to comprehend.

I haven't tried Steel Division as I didn't get on with their previous titles, and yes they are a bit too fast paced I have to agree...

Are you playing Continuous/Real Time, or turn based?

I am not saying I disagree, just curious.

The old Close Combat Games, were, for their day, the perfect mix of reality, pace, and scale. Unfortunately, they have never been translated well into the modern gaming era.

Turn based for me. For some reason, I never considered the other option, but then squad placement was so important that I needed that extra time to make sure I clicked on the exact spot on the terrain otherwise my guys may not have LOS enough to support the other squad that's advancing.

CM goes slightly faster (and I, would argue, is slightly more realistic and challenging, in that you do not have as much time to think about things) . . . but the game can still be a bit slow even that way, and is also a little harder to manage.
