In 2010 my wife and I observed Kilauea volcano from the ranger observation station in Volcano National Park. We also walked across a pit crater of Kilauea called Kilauea iki shown here: (in the distance you can see Kilauea volcano). Some 60 years ago Kilauea Iki contained lava at the surface. As we walked across you could see steam coming up in some places and sometimes see the rocks covered with sulphur near the entrance of the steam vents. Lava was some 300 ft below us.
