Yeah maybe hes thinking 128 but has 126. They both end with an e.

I've read about this confusion newbies had before with those versions.

Beats me. Just re-joined this conversation, being unaware of subsequent posts. As I said, a couple of days ago to MarkEAW, I assumed that I got EAW 1.28E from his help site. if not, then I don't remember where. It's verified that the initial splash panel says, in lower left corner, "V1.28e".

Is this something I'm not supposed to have?

As to the point of making the wrong entry in the ini. folder, I suppose anything is possible, but I checked twice, and the entry for, IIRC, "HUDFONT" is "1". Is that the proper entry for enlarged HUD fonts?

My screen is 1920x1080 natural resolution, and IIRC I have that set in the ini file. It's for sure that that was diminished a bit, on both HxW, in the wrapper program, so that the blue edges of the wrapper program are just visible. the net result is that the game completely fills my monitor screen.

I'm willing to give up a little screen to get the HUD up to a reasonable size. I don't know where to begin, and there are a great many choices between initial ini settings and the wrapper program.

Suggestions?

set the game/flight screen to 1024x768. I belive version 1.28e had moved the pilot seat back (in effect widening the FOV). Its a good all around res to use.

In the wrapper use 0x0. If that dont work try 1024x768 or higher.

"HUDFONT" - I looked it up 3 times for yeah already on varies posts, I know your taking in alot, but try looking on my site in the help doc CodeGroup - inside the eaw.ini, under the [EAW] section. I think its HudFontSize or HudFontDisplay or something.

OK, I'll give that a shot, thanks!

Just revisiting this thread. It's striking that there are many threads discussing developmental issues but not a Single sticky devoted solely on how to play the game.

Perhaps such threads/posts are buried in the past. I strongly suggest a sticky thread containing info on how to fly the game, possibly with "Flight School" links provided within the thread.

I think the omission of such a thread does a great disservice to both the Game, and any possible newcomers. Not to mention all the people who have tried to keep the game alive.

If it's not made as easy as possible for newcomers to enjoy the game, and its' many variants, what's the point to it all?.

Did you read the game manual yet?

Then there's the readme's that come with the CD and separate ones for the patches.

There's PDFs and word format downloads for them.

If it's about tactical behaviour and how to aim the Mark Shot's Shoot To Kill is an obligatory read but if you join our online games you'll learn the ropes real quick from veteran pilots.Joystick setups and view system setup is also very important and extensively covered throughout SimHQ, not sure if Mark Shot's ''Bible'' also covers that. Reading WWII pilot's reports and books will also help you get an idea of how to stay alive.

If you want to learn it more slowly then you can activate unlimmeted ammo and invulnerable pilot, or just start single missions with only a few enemies against you or select low level enemy skill. Training is part of the game, where you start and how far you want to take it is up to you.

That's a mighty fine compendium of "Flight School" stuff, Mark! Much obliged.

And thanks also to Mr Otten for the equally useful link.

I made the completely sub-conscious response, and then when there no result, had a good laugh at myself.

The MPS Flight School is html, you open it with index.html I belive. Its also on FsFOOT's EAW on Linux web site as posted pages.

The exact values are going to be different for the aircraft, as the FM's where modified in later versions of the game, or adopted from earlier intensive works.
So anything that tells you how things work with base values will be off slighlty when flying in those versions other than v1.2.

Nobody can make an exact FM but can do a comparable estimate based on plane data, and understanding of the physics in EAW game and how the values truly effect performance.
I'd use a more expensive game like IL or PF to compare to when making FMs, if I was an FM tweaker.
But they can be different too, based on the more closely made physics in those games.

Anyhow, grain of salt is what you need.

Heres some Flying Tips I edited from those other sources, or forum post i think:

STK-EAW's tutorial is deep, and shows a practiced hand at flight sims. His tactics would work in most any flight sim, as they are grounded in the basics. It goes without saying that the tutorial could take the flight sim internet world by storm if it included diagrams, a picture being worth a thousand words.

If STK-EAW could get someone to make simple, pauseable, rewindable, embedded videos within his tutorial, such vids would convey his message far better than his already well-done text. In many cases, a simple color-coded diagram could serve, so lessening the number of required vids.

The added video component need not be terribly complex, simply a red and a blue aircraft with suitable flight trails of similar color, operating in an indicated 3D environment with no background detail necessary. This sort of rendering is not cutting-edge at all, and would turn what STK-EAW has made (suitably modified for General use) into a potentially money-making tutorial suitable for many eras of aircraft.

If I had such skills, I would have already been in contact with STK-EAW, planning the BEST flight tutorial ever made. And maybe making money out of a hobby.

Yup, that's a good one, I've only read parts of it, but was interesting.
I believe that one he used EAW directly to fly test for it.

I think he wrote another one for 'in general' game.
I didn't bother saving it as it wasn't for EAW directly. (Someone must have it)

That version would be worth capturing, I think. If anyone has a link, please provide such.

ETA: just sent him an e-mail based on email addy linked in this site: https://www.4shared.com/web/preview/pdf/v54YQsJL. Looks pretty dead right now, but who knows? Will advise if response is received.

Just found something here: http://www.combatsim.com/archive/htm/htm_arc4/training.htm that is not incorporated within oft-quoted EAW Flight tutorial: See "Updated Section". Warning: Author raises come controversial points.

There are plenty of other tutorials available at the site linked.
