That's how much that monster behind us weighs in at. Got back, this passed Sunday, after spending a week long cruise on that beauty. The Royal Caribbean's, Oasis of The Seas. When I first heard that, I was sure I had heard incorrectly. The Missouri is about 50,000, tons. The Nimitz class carriers are 100,000! This thing weighs over twice as much as the Nimitz! What a trip. When my wife said she wanted to do it for a week, I thought, "Oh, geez....after three days I'm gonna be bored outta my mind!" But it was a blast. They treated us like royalty. We did three stops, snorkeled, zip lined, saw shows, ate....ate some more and then....yeah, we ate some more. Fun. But what a beast. We always dwarfed everything in port. Disney had one nearby, in Cozumel, that was almost as big, though. Want to go back. Didn't want to come home. But 225,000 tons!?

The battleship Yamato was about 72,000 tons so even that one is dwarfed by the cruiseship!

Yeah, forgot about the Yamato and her sister ship the Musashi. Biggest battleships, ever. This would make them look like pleasure yachts. Of course, the Oasis doesn't have 18 inch guns.

I've been on two cruise ships, one about 70k tons and the other 110k, and I made the same comparisons (Iowa, Yamato, Nimitz class etc) each time.

Look for me on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook or Tic Toc...or anywhere you may frequent, besides SimHq, on the Global Scam Net. Aka, the internet. I am not there, never have been or ever will be, but the fruitless search may be more gratifying then the "content" you might otherwise be exposed to.

Oasis was my first cruise ever many years ago. It was the first year it was in service. Since then i have been on the sister ships like Allure and Anthem. Good times.
My biggest was RCI's Voyager of the Seas (and a couple of sister ships), the largest at the time (featured on the cover of "Elegance at Sea")...
"Voyager of the Seas contains the first rock climbing wall at sea (mounted on funnel) and the first ice-skating rink at sea, as well as a horizontal atrium concept known as the Royal Promenade." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MS_Voyager_of_the_Seas
That was in the late 90's, RCI keeps making them bigger, their current largest is the Quantum-class [EDIT: Oasis still bigger, correction in following post]...
"The Quantum-class of ships debuted as the second largest class of cruise ships in the world. The Quantum-class ships were the first ships built for Royal Caribbean by Meyer Werft since the Radiance class and share many features with those ships, including indoor pools with retractable roofs, vast expanses of glass, outdoor seating in the Windjammer buffet, and self-leveling pool tables." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quantum-class_cruise_ship
Interesting to note about the design similarities of the new one and Radiance-class (known as the "glass ship", we cruised on Brilliance). Our favorite ship by far, mainly because it *wasn't* so big, it still felt like you were on a ship and not a giant floating city. And it was at least as elegant as Voyager, if not as grandiose.
Cruises are awesome! We had no idea what to expect when wife's company sent us on our first one, got hooked on them for 7 in total, then burned out (it's been almost 10 years since the last one). Glad you had a good time, Pooch!

Correction: Quantum is newer but Oasis still bigger!
"The Quantum class represented a different direction for Royal Caribbean. The Voyager and Freedom-class designs evolved into the Oasis class which was considered the pinnacle in terms of scale and facilities. By contrast, the Quantum-class lineage is closer to that of the Radiance class which was designed for cruising in cooler climates; the Quantum class is smaller than the preceding Oasis class as the Radiance class is smaller than the earlier Voyager class. Although not RCI's largest ship, the Quantum class pioneers several new innovations to the cruise line."

Yes, the ship is a few years old, but next year it's getting a complete refit. The crew told us that it is going to be drydocked for two months and they are going over her from bow to stern.
"Who needs 18 inch guns when you have Pooch on board?"
They didn't need me. As we were heading back, F-16's came in low over us and circled the ship. We were out at the pool, and everybody on deck was yelling and cheering. It was pretty neat. They were probably the 482nd Fighter Wing out of Homestead.

Gross tonnage (often abbreviated as GT, G.T. or gt) is a nonlinear measure of a ship's overall internal volume. Gross tonnage is different from gross register tonnage. Neither gross tonnage nor gross register tonnage should be confused with measures of mass or weight such as deadweight tonnage or displacement.

That is displacement tonnage.

There was only 16 squadrons of RAF fighters that used 100 octane during the BoB. The Fw190A could not fly with the outer cannon removed. There was no Fw190A-8s flying with the JGs in 1945.
"3 yr cruise so I've had enough to last a lifetime. Idk how much we weighed but it was a lot less than a cruise ship or the battleship Yamato"
When the sea got a bit rough, and it never really got bad, I could feel the sideways motion. Even on that floating city. On a destroyer it must have been murder. Probably took a while to get used to. On a brighter note, though, the food was great....right?

At its cruising speed of 22.6 knots (26 mph), the Oasis of the Seas burns 11361 gallons of fuel each hour. The fuel efficiency, then, is 0.0023 mpg, or 12.08 feet per gallon!Dec 27, 2010

So in other words, if you are a hardcore environmentalist you better not be goIng on any cruises!

Damn.
While transporting roughly 8000 people.
So that would be the equivalent of a single occupant vehicle operating at ~18 mpg.
