RSC, you are right about it being pretty streamlined for its time. You would think that it would have performed better.

RSC, you are right about it being pretty streamlined for its time. You would think that it would have performed better. 40% of the drag of the aircraft is due to the gear and wires.

Dart, I don't doupt it but how those tiny wires add so much drag is beyond me... A lot of it is interference drag, since so many wires and surfaces are near each other and cause a quite substantial increase in total drag.
In all my years I've never seen the like. It has to be more than a hundred sea miles and he brings us up on his tail. That's seamanship, Mr. Pullings. My God, that's seamanship!

In some of the later Camels and Snipes they actually went with teardrop shaped wires - and got measurable improvements from them.
That's a fitter's nightmare! Imagine having to tighten a wire and keep it's orientation correct for the line of flight, with no twists!
