That's some pretty good policing. Sure, it costs a lot of time but arresting that drunkard might cause him to lose his job (if he has one), and who knows what kind of a downward spiral that'll set in motion. (Reluctance to arresting people might also partially explain the low crime rates in Japan.)

Peelian principles applied, it seems.

Well, I guess the actions in anime are a reflection of real life smile

Blimey, he'd have been face down on the ground and cuffed just a few minutes into that.

Cuffed? After some of the footage I've seen here, the guy might have been shot. Excellent calm and control on the part of the Japanese officer; much respect.

I love how the paper boys, the girls walking the bike and the old man just go about their business and in no rush. LOL
That's another difference with the US, here you'd get a few dozen people in there trying to "help" the cops, making things far worse and escalating it out of control.

One thing is still universal, somebody recording it with their mobile device (all while laughing at the man embarrassing himself) and then posting it on You-Tube.

Craving attention is a fundamental part of human nature.

...and the allure of a spectacle.

I think the minute he started smashing glass on the ground, he would have been taken into custody here in the states

Here is Alabama USA we have this weired law/rule/statute. The Local chief of police is responsible for feeding the prisoners out of his own bank account. The state gives him money to do it based on how many previous year prisoners they had. If they have more then the chief has to pay to feed them out of his own pocket. If they have less the chief gets to pocket the excess money.

Its one of the most corrupt and horrible law/rule/statues I've ever seen. They will arrest you for anything in order to inflate their prisoner numbers to get more money. Then they feed you so little and so poorly that if you are in jail for more than a week before being transferred you will be malnourished and sick.

Its horrible to say the least. It is laws like that which make police arrest people. It is nice to see police doing their job without the sort of horrible corruption we have down here. I wish my country/state didnt look at prisoners as a corporate paycheck.

Oh #%&*$#, I think this is getting PWEC... Ill shut up now.

True.
At least it's not a life and death situation, like a mudslide or tornado and some idiot is standing there waiting to get killed just so he can get something on camera.
Even worse, filming a life and death situation when you could be helping someone instead of standing there hoping for something that could go viral.

I wonder how many people get killed using their phone camera instead of putting it away and being smart?

If you're looking for an uplifting thought, those who get culled from the herd thus contribute to raising the average IQ, long term.

(And it works, so much is proven. About 4 points every decade.)
