Or perhaps financial ruin and then prison. Not sure how that one plays out. There's an order of operations someplace I bet.

Got two phone calls today, within an hour of each other.

First one was a synthesized voice, and I mean 1980s vintage (you HAve beeN deTECTed of TAx Fer-AUD), telling me that for my tax fraud, I need to contact officials at a certain phone number or prepare myself for "custody by the federal agents".

Second one told me that for my tax evasion, I was facing a lawsuit. Gosh, I never dreamed they'd catch me. But that's the life of a scoundrel I guess.

So this is it folks. It's been fun. I regret nothing.

I was wondering if I was the only one...

I got that same phone call last week. I was driving, so I let the truck hands-free answer, and got that vintage computer-synthesized voice saying about verbatim what it said to you.

Anyway, if we both go to the clink, I'll look you up and say hello wink

Just have your family send you a good supply of soap on a rope. This will help avoid possible surprises in the prison shower room. biggrin

Had one similar not to long ago. Was an USA area code (Florida) and said were calling from Revenue Canada. Why would the Canada Revenue Agency (note proper name) be calling from the USA. duh

There was only 16 squadrons of RAF fighters that used 100 octane during the BoB.
The Fw190A could not fly with the outer cannon removed.
There was no Fw190A-8s flying with the JGs in 1945.

Why are US Federal Law enforcement agencies so damn impotent against this stuff?

I'm shocked, shocked to see so much criminal activity among the esteemed forum community.

Surely ... there must be a way to avoid imprisonment. I'm sure, the "officials on that certain phone number" will be able to bypass the embarrassment of court proceedings, if you confess immediately (they know everything already, right?), and then plea for a bargain... Sure, it'll be costly. But then again, there are so many dead Nigerian princes looking for the NEXT OF KIN, surely lady luck will soon present an opportunity to make up for those losses.

Because it's cheaper, d'uh!

I mean, think about it: Canadian phone bills are so overpriced, and the minimum wage for callcenter agents are much higher in Canada, right?
In Florida, they can hire qualified people for less, get a sweet tax break (everybody loves tax breaks, right?), so they can save Canadian taxpayers millions of expenses by shifting the telephone services offshore (that is, south of the border).

My mother got one and is all panicked over it. Tried to get to calm down and think about it. To know avail. Hope she has it figured out now. Told her
to talk with the manager and person who did your taxes.

We get them here in Oz too. It's usually an Indian/Pakistani accent... a real caller not a recording. They catch a few poor fools all the time. One of our colleagues here in town, another real estate agent, clicked on a link that should have been left alone in their emails. Ransonware..... their system was locked up and a phone caller demanded several thousand dollars to unlock it. Fortunately they had done a complete backup only the day before, so they formatted the HDD and reinstalled everything.

Maybe those government employees convinced Trudeau to open up a satellite office in Florida so they could enjoy the beach on a daily basis?

When the Indian/Pakistani accented guy from the IRS calls I give them my sexy baritone and ask them what they're wearing and when do they get off work, ..they just hang up, I don't understand.

No lawyers, no way.
