Could anyone enlighten me and explain what memory leak is and how can I verify it on my computer. Launch a complex mission, set pause and check ram usage..Play, pause and check ram usage after 15mn, same after 30mns. If ram usage stays constant or has a limited increase, no memory leak. If ram usage grows significantly, there's a memory leak.

Because if they release 2.5.1 and anyone's favourite module doesn't work at first try, not only you will jump at their throat ? Just because you think it does not mean I'll do it. What is the correct way of doing things? Get the 3rd party devs to update their module for each and every DCS update or get a stable version out first then update everything once? The flaw here is that the core of DCS is a big mess and fixing it takes time, so ED has to make the 3rd party devs update their modules to keep customers occupied as ED takes their sweet, sweet time breaking and fixing and fixing and breaking DCS Core. That, and the software isn't really modular as ED will make you think. "I've forgotten that ED treats us as both the beta tester and the customer." ED does not do enough to separate voluntary testing practices with released product. They actively market the testing phase as "it's out (tm)." which they absolutely should not do. I was very disappointed to see their 2.5 DOWNLOAD NOW! plastered across their home page during 2.5's testing phase. I think voluntary testing branches are a great idea but they need to be clearly expressed that way. Indeed, but it has gotten to be the norm for ED now, maybe because of their censored and sterile forums. "Except there was no stable branch, there was only open beta." What we call the branch that isn't OA or OB is stable branch or release branch or main or whatever is the official name always exists. The code that was showcased by OB was then deemed worthy of being the Release product which is why OB and Release matched versions. Except that there's a long list of things to fix in 2.5 that ED has yet to go through. One of which is this memory leak/memory optimization issue. Yet they still saw fit to rename an OB to a Release. Why? They've already missed their "1-2 week" window, why do another haphazard move like this? It's the same thing for the release of Open Beta in the first place --- the software is clearly not ready yet ED releases it anyway. Now Open Beta is clearly not worthy of a Release label yet ED renames it anyway. I think the development cycle is internal, then a closed beta from hand-picked folks, then public beta on the dedicated branch, and then release branch. And that is a fair assumption, but then experience with the software seems to prove that this isn't the case as far as internal testing and closed betas are concerned. the latest being to ask the community what WWII platform they should look at at next, I really laugh at that one! They know they need to release something soon to keep their customers happy and distracted from the real issues but now even ED themselves don't know what to serve up next. When you realize that they can't even handle what's on their plate, and yet they're making stupid posts like that one, just shows you how much of a clue they really have, or if they do have a clue, how much they really care.

I see that DCS use lot of ram but it stays about constant during mission. I used mission without late activation units. I have 16GB and never run out of memory. Can you define what your 'never run out of memory' equates to? You're aware of how a paging file works and how data is purged from RAM to disk? I have 32GB RAM, DCS for me sits around the 17-23GB mark and higher in multiplayer. (settings obviously have an effect on this too).

I would like to say "welcome back!" but DCS isn't quite there yet.

there is one problem with the design of the offline mode
If you go to into DCS offline mode on PC1 and god forbid that PC1 dies etc
you are kinda screwed

Eh, so 2.5 is allegedly classed as 'stable' and a 'release candidate.......2.5.1 is back in open beta?
It's not that complicated really. New version debuts in open beta, once it is classified stable, it moves to stable branch and supersedes the old stable version.

Ever since the new update came through Steam a few days ago, I've been getting a meta shading error that prevents me from flying the sim, no matter what mission or aircraft I use: Screenshot of errorOn both Steam and ED forums I see alot of numerous complaints about the same thing. Anyone here get that too? v6, boNes

Lots of fixes. Does it work reasonably with 8gb of RAM now, like other sims do ?

Does it work reasonably with 8gb of RAM now, like other sims do ? Forget that. No matter what ED does, MP is going to need 16GB (which is not unreasonable for a modern PC). I have been running 32GB for two years.

You can’t even see the irony of a ‘stable’ release in name only that is an unoptimised piece of crap.......and two weeks later is amazingly back in open beta. ED have just manufactured a baseline for themselves in order to create the illusion of progress and functionality. The gullible just lap it up and claim this is how software development is undertaken.

It is a new version. New versions have a mandatory beta phase before they can go to release. It's not rocket science and it has nothing to do with the quality of the previous version, it's just how software release cycles work. As for the rest of your post, let's leave the veiled ad hominem attacks out of it.

As for the rest of your post, let's leave the veiled ad hominem attacks out of it. It's not how software cycles work at all. Only ED move an unoptimised, unfinished, untested product with literally hundreds of new and existing bugs from beta to release and then back into beta in order to claim their software has at some point reflected a stable build. No need to play the victim.......anyone that defends EDs practice either doesn't know what they're talking about or must be blinded by their incompetence.
