.....they were thought to run out of water by April

After seeing this map no wonder California areas have had water shortages ...and other places in U.S.. The avg U.S. citizen uses 100 gallons of water per day

I'd say South Africa has some slightly bigger problems right now...

If they are using that much water they are paying through the nose if they live in Southern California.

1 unit of water = 748 gallons of water
Our water allotment for a family of 4 is 10 units of water or 7480 gallons a month before penalties are assessed. That equates to roughly 60 gallons per day per person.
We typically use about 8 to 9 units a month. Residential Water Rates: https://www.coronaca.gov/home/showdocument?id=2246
Most cities have a similar rate structure like the one I linked for water usage.

I caught a spider in the bathroom and flushed it away with 1.5 gallons of clean drinking water and laughed.

That’s interesting stuff. We use 4-6 units, depending on the month of the year, but I’m not huge on watering the yard in Aug-Sept or it would be more in those months. 5 units a month the last few months, so I guess that’s about 31 gal/mo. each for 4 of us.
Maybe 100 gal a day is a national average, not taking into account farming? Surely not industry or it would be higher.

Well, it's about time! I mean, really, it's long overdue. So, I might as well go ahead and use all the water I want, right?

Why is North Africa and the Arabian peninsula so red? Do the people there not like to drink water? wink

Dart, buddy, South Africa is most certainly NOT a third-world country. I lived there for 2 years (in Port Elizabeth, Cape Town, Germiston, Johannesburg and Pretoria).

It ain't a perfect place by any stretch (where is?), but they are one of the most thriving Republics in the entire continent of Africa. Their universities are top-notch, their cities are bustling centers of business and commerce, their medical facilities are first-rate (the artificial heart was invented there) and the tech industry is as robust there as it is here in the U.S.

It's an honest mistake to make. I didn't know anything about South Africa until I moved there, so no harm done.

Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand." -- Ephesians 6: 12-13 KJV

Are you talking about South Africa today? Just asking, because the info I get from people getting the hell out nowadays don't talk like that. When were you there if I may ask?

EDIT Yikes I just realised this is CH, not PWEC. Please ignore my question and by all means use PWEC if you want politics.
