http://www.foxnews.com/us/2018/04/1...senger-reportedly-hit-with-shrapnel.htmlI have to wonder if she was wearing her safety belt or not. Tragic but not the first time a passenger was killed by shrapnel (directly or indirectly) from a sudden engine failure

Not so freak though, as this is the second SouthWest jet in a couple of years to have an engine malfunction, on the same side of the plane and with the same kind of engine... both incidents lead to the destruction of the engine. FYI the engine, the CFM56-7, is made by co-made by General Electric, while some parts are made by the French company Safran. https://www.aviationcv.com/aviation-blog/2016/southwest-airlines-flight-engine-explosionShort GE, anyone?

I ALWAYS wear my seat belt.
How bad would it suck to get sucked out a window and then do the frozen buzzard skydive for.. SEVEN FREAKIN MILES! Once you get pulled through a window that is much smaller than you are, the rest of the trip won't be much of a concern.

https://www.cnn.com/2018/04/18/us/philadelphia-southwest-flight-jennifer-riordan/index.htmlShe was sucked out the window up to her waist ...two passengers were able to get her back into the plane but her injuries were fatal. The pilot was ex-Navy with 32 yrs experience (according to reports) and did a great job bringing the plane down safely .

I suspect it was more than just the window that blew out....they're awful small and it's not like TV where it's explosive decompression.
The opinions of this poster are largely based on facts and portray a possible version of the actual events. More dumb stuff at http://www.darts-page.comFrom Laser: "The forum is the place where combat (real time) flight simulator fans come to play turn based strategy combat."

Apparently, quite a lot of people didn't wear their oxygen masks properly after the decompression. Neither, judging from the picture in the article, did they tug the mask to start the oxygen flow. https://www.cnbc.com/2018/04/18/pas...ks-properly-aboard-southwest-flight.htmlI'm not waiting for those potential Darwin Award winners to get their handbags if I ever encounter a fire onboard.
In all my years I've never seen the like. It has to be more than a hundred sea miles and he brings us up on his tail. That's seamanship, Mr. Pullings. My God, that's seamanship!

Amazing composure and control. A real tribute to training and self-control.

F4U...(whatever his nick is) should take note. Excuse me?
