New series made by Netflix. Just finished watching the first season. Pretty good compared the previous attempts at it. Looking forward to the next season.

Which previous attempts have there been besides the original 60’s tv show? The movie from 1997 doesn’t really count since that was a movie and not a tv show so it was a totally different animal.

I've not seen it yet but based on some critic reviews I've read, it seems this reboot got the same treatment that the Battlestar Galactica reboot got. Essentially a darker, more serious and adult-oriented approach for modern audiences.

We watched the first two so far and enjoyed them. They do take a little different track with it, but I won't spoil it. It's more complex, some perhaps needlessly, but it started out well on the survival part and how they got in this situation.
I hope the other episodes don't blow it!
I still need to watch Titan too.

A friend at work recommended this to me since she knows I'm a huge scifi fan. I'll be checking it out even though I was surprised to see that most critics absolutely trashed it. I think it has like a 7% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The chicken is the smartest character on the show.

I was interested to see what sort of Dr Smith the show would get. Not surprised at the gender but this 'Dr' is pure evil (so far).

With the change in Dr. Smith's gender and the emasculation of the male leads that I've read about in reviews, I don't see the point in this series. There's a respectful way to write female leads in as strong characters without demeaning males and going counter to the original series' vision, and this show doesn't sound like it knows how. Correct me if I'm wrong, of course, as I haven't watched an episode, only read reviews.

So... You make an opinion based on other opinions and forgo watching yourself to form your own opinion?

Poor. Very poor.

From what I've seen so far (2 shows in) now bad but.. Feels generic.

I started out thinking that, but by the third episode, I don’t see it that way. They each, the parents, have areas of specialty and strengths. They have to get used to one or the other being in charge judging by the situation, not one making all of the calls. They’re barely still married after he’s been off at war and she’s raised the kids. They’re figuring their way through, which is actualy realistic for most married couples. The mother is the scientist, raised the kids, but is fairly distant and unfeeling with them. The father, the hero soldier who can make decisions under pressure, was absent, for good reason, but still having to get to know his kids again who are a little resentful that he’s been gone. He’s not a scientist, he’s a pilot and does gruntwork. By the third ep, they seem to be figuring that out.
I think it’s well done in that respect.

I would have to agree with Raw on this,I don't see it either. Don't be put off by the reviews,at least watch the first 2 episodes and judge yourself.

Managed to watch it as far as part way through episode 3 then I got the same feeling with "Dr. Smith" as I got with the woman in red in BSG, still not watched BSG any further than the red woman scenes.

I got as far as when the mother and Smith were at the cleaning out of the engines and Smith starts sweet talking the mother and at that point I said Nope.

I'll give it a try later today as I was enjoying it up to that point.

"Woman in red"?

Are you referring to Six? What didn't you like about her so much that it turned you off to the entire series?

Can't remember if she was called anything but she was a figment of the doctor/scientist/whatever's imagination, she just creeped me out so much so that I could not watch the rest of the series, got the same feeling with Smith in Lost in Space, it just seemed totally wrong and brought me crashing out of the experience of watching the show.

I put on Lost in Space again today and just got past that scene, but the wife came home and said "I'm not watching that sh!t can't you put on something else" She hates all SciFi bless her biggrin

Well, as long as she doesn't force you to watch any chick flicks or any other female favorite genres then it would be a fair arrangement. smile
