I was given a Steam gift card for my Birthday, last week. Well, the only game I was really interested in was Battle of Kuban. Unfortunately, they haven't released it on Steam yet.
So, I was just going to hold onto it until I noticed a sale was on. 60% off of DCS modules. I've been interested in The Spitfire, and Normandy, but not for over 100 dollars. No, I wasn't THAT interested.
But with the sale I could pick up the Spit, Normandy and the Normandy assest pack. All with my 50 dollar gift card. Now that was more like it.
But now I have Steam versions of these. So I have a Steam setup with the Spit and Normandy, and my DCS setup with everything else. I seem to remember a way to integrate them, but it's been a while since I've bought a DCS module. Is there a way to do it?

I would think that's a NO.

Read up on this post - clicky!

The M2000C was out in 2015, the Spitfire was a year later in 2016, and Normandy in 2017. I'd ask for a Steam refund if I were you and would wait for BoK on Steam or buy it directly from the IL-2 website. 8 aircraft, a map, a campaign, and SP missions for $50? How can DCS even compete with that with one aircraft and an open map? Plus IL-2 does sales every now and again too.

Hope you have a really top line PC because the Normandy map with their Campaign is a slide show on my computer. Good Luck getting decent frame rates.
AFAIAC it is a waste of money. If you just want to fly the Spit and maybe 1v1 it is fine and the module is awesome, but if you want immersive missions or Campaigns
it is a hog for resources and doesn't hold a candle to CLOD Blitz or BOX. banghead

Yeah, I love the Spitfire. But I went ahead and requested the money be put back into my Steam wallet. BOK should be on Steam eventually. And yeah, CLOD happens to be my favorite WW2 combat sim at the moment.
It's a no-brainer, of course, that the BOX series is the better bargain. But I have to admit to having been curious about those modules. Steam said the money will be returned to my wallet, so I'll just be patient.

Any reason why you'd wait on Steam and not buy direct from the devs for BoK?

If ED opens up sale of 2nd-hand modules again (like they promised oh so long ago), you may be able to satisfy your curiousity for much less money and maybe even be able to sell those modules on so your overall cash outlay is minimal, if any smile

Well, it's just that I have this 50 dollar gift card that I might as well use, since I really don't want any other games. I have bought directly from the devs in the past. I own the Spitfire MK5 from their site and have pre ordered Bodenplatte. I don't want to waste the card, so I'll wait. I'm sure that it will be on Steam soon.
And, by the way. To Steam's credit, they refunded the whole 50 dollars back to my Steam wallet, no questions asked.

Yeah, I love the Spitfire.

Them get only DCS Spit Mk. IXe (on sales) and fly in Caucasus map, Normandy map don't add nothing, is not a "Normandy 1994", but a pre or post war Normandy area without any signal of war there. Mk.Ixe is good for an week of two, after you leave in the "shelf" - like most DCS modules. smile

Yes, it was a beautiful model. But I returned all of it, and I'm waiting for Kuban. When I recieve Bodenplatte, it's going to have a Mk9, anyway. Absolutely my favorite mark of the series. I'll just have to keep telling myself, "Patience, Padawan, patience. Soon the Force will be with you.."

Nice to hear that about Steam. Personally, I probably would've flogged the gift card for cash smile Then bought BoK from the devs. We all talk about supporting this market so I try to cut out the middle man when I can. I did this for DCS, for Elite Dangerous, and for BoS, among other non-sim games.

Yeah, I think I could have put the money back into the credit card that I have on file with them, rather then the gift card. I think that was an option. Hey, I'm getting old....my mind isn't working as quickly as it used to!

biggrin no offense intended!

Good luck with the BoK wait. I'm downloading BoS now to see what it's like and if I can make more sense out of it this time frown

Well, now I feel like a dumbass for not doing the credit card option....d-oh! But anyway, what do mean by "make more sense of it?" What was giving you a hard time? The planes are pretty straight forward. You fly DCS and BMS, so I know you can handle the BOX planeset.
By the way, get the P-40. It's gonna get you killed a lot but for some reason, I really like it!

I don't know. I'm just not a prop head, I guess? Not really dived into it as well, so the issue may totally be PICNIC smile

Expect loads of silly questions in the IL-2 forums soon! biggrin Be gentle!
