Just throwing out this short poll to see if there are any interesting trends among our esteemed SimHQ group. smile

When was the last time you bought.....

1. A DVD or a blu-ray disc

2. A CD

My answers,

1. I bought one DVD and one bluray about 2 weeks ago.

2. My last CD purchase was in 2011.

Bought a few CD’s last week. Old comedy.

I'm sure we had a similar poll a while ago?

I'm completely digital now, last CD was probably over 5 years ago and DVD a lot longer.

But isn't that spelled "Pole" and not "Poll"? wink

I still buy audio CDs and some vinyl record albums. I also sit in a chair, in front of my hi-fi system to listen to them.

Digital format audio is fine, but I'm not well prepared to get this media into my audio system right now.

No dvd’s in probably 10 years? 12? I switched immediately, I’m tired of rebuying favorites.
Bluray, not in a couple of years, I buy on Vudu now.
Not only that, but after claiming all digital version codes of my blurays, and paying $4(?) to transfer some dvds and other blurays to Vudu with their app, I sold off a stack of blurays as a set on a local facebook group.
Vudu lets you scan in your upc to show ownership (as flawed as that method is), pay that small fee, and get a digital version on that service. I love that for my favorite movies.

CDs, maybe one in the last year due to being a cheaper way to get a digital version through Amazon than just buying the mp3s. I buy very little music, my old stuff and the radio are enough.

Feb 20 I bought Pink Floyd the 25th Anniversary Deluxe Edition on DVD. Before that, it's been years since I purchased physical media. These days it's almost all a virtual collection that I keep on Amazon's cloud.

You'd be called a "fossil" by teenagers today. That's a good thing! smile

Slightly off-topic but I only own one piece of equipment that even has a CD/DVD drive and that's my laptop. My desktop doesn't have one and I don't own any sort of hi-fi system.

I keep hearing that records and tapes are making a comeback over cd’s. Records I get, but I don’t want to return to the days of tapes wearing out, warping, getting eaten...

Sales of vinyl have indeed been increasing recently but it's still a tiny segment of the overall consumer music market. Right now streaming is where its at. Streaming is growing at a breakneck rate while CD sales are plummeting. Even digital music sales are declining.

I've not heard about cassettes having a revival though.

I am a sucker for Blu-rays, buy often, in China. Brick and mortar stores, legit. Don’t ask.
Music is all streaming via Tidal Hifi subscription, I would not have it any other way anymore. Less than 5 cds purchased a year, usually from street artists playing music and selling their work.

DVD? None since Blu-rays hit retail shelves.

Cheers,
Slug

I don’t often buy cds but I bought a couple Def Leppard cds last year because their original recordings aren’t on iTunes.

I buy DVDs all the time, building a fairly extensive classic film library. I like knowing i’ve got them and they look better than when they came out on the modern media so quality isn’t a concern.

I just bought a 2001 Lincoln Towncar that has a cassette player. My 1995 F-150 has a cassette player. So I still buy cassettes. Some of my cassettes were purchased in the late 80's early 90's and still play fine.

I'd consider buying DVDs of older movies you can't find playing on the Roku. Like "The Man who would be King", "Mountain Men", "Farewell to the King" movies like that.

The road less traveled is filled with fewer needy people.

I still buy Blu ray. Just can't find the same picture/sound quality in streaming video.

CD's too so I can play them in the car.

Still CDs and cassettes for me. Cassettes are bought second hand now. I think the last time I bought a cassette was around 2004. They just up and disappeared from my Walmart. When comes to music I've got to have something physical. Music is far too important to me for it to be relegated to some intangible, digital thing. Every once in awhile I'll get a vinyl too, mostly second hand. I did buy a few years ago a new run vinyl release of Mickey Newbury.
