I have a desktop computer with 19 different devices either plugged into the USB slots at the back of the motherboard, or connected to two internal PCI-E USB 3.0 cards from Inateck or connected to a 10 port powered USB 3.0 hub. That includes a mouse, keyboard, webcam, Track IR, Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, etc.... Currently, for testing I only have three flight sim controllers connected to the computer, one Warthog stick, one CH Pro Throttle and one VKB pedal set. The problem is that in IL2 1946, FSX or DCS, once I assign all the controls everything is great as long as I do not restart my computer. Once I do though, the computer keeps switching the IDs of the controllers around. So one time when I start up FSX, the CH Pro Throttle might be called ID3 by the computer, and when I restart the computer the next morning, it might be reassigned to ID2. Obviously this means that I have to go back and reassign all the commands again to every single hat, button or switch (arrrgh). Anyone know how I can stop Windows 10 64 bit from continually reassigning the ID numbers of the controllers and USB devices?

That's odd. Don't have that issue for DCS, BMS, or XP11 which are the sims I use. I have TrackIR, WH stick, WH throttle, Saitek rudders, plus a few other USB-connected devices.

Is this ID reset thing happening to ALL devices? Or just those connected to a USB hub? Might be your hub that's the issue, try connecting your important peripherals directly to your motherboard. If it is a hub issue, might be worth looking at another hub? I have a very old (8 years!) powered USB hub but it's 2.0 and everything sim-related plugs through there with no ID issues. It does reset ID numbers occasionally after I take the PC down for maintenance, but I have a system now and that happens less often. Definitely does not happen after a reboot.

Try too disable power saving for USB ports in Windows Power settings.

Actually guys, I made a mistake, the problem is only showing up in IL2 and FSX, not DCS, which goes by controller name. Thanks for the info and thanks Sokol for the links. Will look into the problem again tonight.

I had similar problems when I did a clean install of Win 10 to a previous Win 7 machine after upgrading my MB and CPU. My KB wouldn't work in some sims and my Warthog throttle wouldn't work. I changed the plugs to another USB port and the problems disappeared. Try plugging the controllers you are having problems with into a USB port directly to the MB rear panel connectors, not an expansion slot.
