I will be building a new PC for my flight simulator cockpit. I will be installing and using Xplane11, P3D V4.2, FSX and maybe Flight Sim world. Should I upgrade to Windows 10 or stick with Windows 7? 64 bit of course. I will also be using DCS and Cliffs of Dover and the latest MOD (can't remember the name right now).

Wow, you're really spamming the boards for this one smile

My recommendation is Win10, simply because it's the latest OS that MS is working on. Win7 is still great, for sure, but you may be looking at EOL for that software soon. Unless you know for a fact that you should stay on Win7, go for Win10.

Agree with Ice. I'd go with 10 every time.

Do you really think it would be considered spam?

Haha... so what if it is? I can see you're excited with your new system and wish you all the best. It's not really a good time to be building right now IMHO, with RAM prices and especially GPU prices being stupidly high. Exact same RAM kit I bought 2 years ago is now twice the price I paid for!

W10 without hesitation for me.

Considerations:

I've read that Microsoft is throwing wrenches into W7, W8 to get folks to switch to W10.

I'm having trouble getting W7 and W8 to "do it all" on the AMD Ryzen CPU hardware when using the very latest AMD BIOS (older BIOS seemed to work). For example, my wife wants to run W8 on her new PC (that I'm building this week) -- to get use of a Ceton tuner and Media Center for TV. Not easy to do in some respects. Trying the MC on W10 hack today. Eventually, I'll pick the best solution (W7, W8, W10 Hack, or newer tuner hardware).

Also, W10 desk top interface is merely a better W7 desk top interface -- if you desire to use it that way (W8 was a mistake, interface wise).

Only issue is if you have something that doesn't run on W10 -- e.g. Ceton Tuner with Media Center.

Just my opinions.

I've put W7 on 3 machines in the last week or so. Two older ones -- 4 year old tech. And one all new Ryzen 1600X system. It's become obvious that Microsoft is actively stifling W7 setup and updates. None the less, W7 runs and most 3'd party apps are supported. So a W7 fan can still use it.

W8 is worse -- set that up on one old system using an old system image -- that worked and Media Center worked. Tried fresh install on the new system -- uphill. One can do it. But, its not like it was even a year ago. I dropped back to a clean W7 install on the new Ryzen 1600X system.

Meantime W10 still does it all -- but not Media Center protected TV channel receive and record (all we really need). One could do it a year ago. But, they've made it real hard. I assume someone smarter than me can set it up; but, I haven't found the definitive answer on-line.

If I didn't get satisfaction out of playing around with this type of problem, I would have quit long before now.

Still recommend W10 for a less troubled experience.

Just an update for what its worth.
