Yes, I would like to learn about any pitfalls before I set things up. Can you give some specifics Paradaz about VR on DCS 2.5?
Also, another question; Flaming Cliffs 3 is considered another module for DCS, is this correct? So, I download the main DCS World 2.5 and then pay for and install FC3 after, is that correct? I assume (probably incorrectly) that LOMAC and FC2 are not part of DCS and cannot integrate with it, is that correct? It's not VR that is the problem with 2.5......it is 2.5 in general. Performance is shocking (the game judders and stalls), textures and lighting is borked and the trees look like something out of a cartoon. I've put it down and am not going back there until ED fix the utter mess. I also have 32GB RAM in my system and it's not enough until the memory leak is fixed. Some people have these issues, some don't.......but 4500+ posts in the 2.5 bug thread on the ED messages boards has literally thousands of problems reported. VR performance was great in both 1.5.x and 2.0 builds and it was a joy to take out the Huey or Shark, I was getting 80+ fps with max settings and pixel density set to 2.0. VR issues with DCS 2.5

So I take it this does not translate to 2.5. Thanks for confirming that. Also, another question; Flaming Cliffs 3 is considered another module for DCS, is this correct? Yes, FC3 is a a module and existed before DCS World but has been integrated into DCS World. You'll notice ED also sells the Su-33, Su-27, F-15C, Su-25, and A-10A; these are simply the FC3 aircraft sold piecemeal, so you can just get the select aircraft it you want, but IMHO, FC3 is better value for money. I would suggest that you do **NOT** buy anything at this moment. ED comes up with a 50% off sale every now and again, so it's best to wait for a sale and get more for your money.

I have to question the OP regarding his timeline. FC3 was never a standalone product. BS2 was, but only for a short time. If it has only been four months since your PC died, how is it that you are not cognizant of the over five years of changes in the platform? Yes, FC3 is a a module and existed before DCS World but has been integrated into DCS World.
Incorrect. FC3 did not exist until after DCS World.

Incorrect. FC3 did not exist until after DCS World. I stand corrected. I was remembering FC2, not FC3. Hmmm... it seems that DCS BS2 was not my last purchase then. I bought BS2 in 2011 and FC3 in 2013.

Next question guys, If I download Version 2.1, I have to buy either the Normandy or Nevada maps in order to use 2.1 right? (The reason I am thinking of 2.1 is that I would like a bit more stable version where VR is already known to work fine.)

I don't think you **NEED** Normandy or Nevada for 2.1, Black Sea map should still be available for you to fly in. I could be wrong on this, so worth checking, but I would advise against spending money if you don't have to. Of course if you really want either map, that's different

https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/downloads/world/You can get 2.5, 2.1, or 1.5. DCS World 2 requires a terrain module. This can be either the DCS: NEVADA Test and Training Range Map or the DCS: Normandy 1944 Map. DCS World 2.1 will not function without one of these two maps. Seems like I was wrong there, but why would the Black Sea map be available in 1.5 and 2.5 but not in 2.1? Someone explain this to me? Seems like a push to sell either map, but then you have 2.5 avaiable that works with the Black Sea map.

Oh, if it's for skin making and not really for playing, then I guess it doesn't matter what you have installed?

I was about to download 2.1 and it disappeared, so I guess I will have to try 2.5 now that it is no longer beta. When I download this web installer do I put my install somewhere in program files (I assume not) or do I create some new folder for it, so I do not have any pesky permission problems with the files later?
