After posting my recent A-10 project, I thought I’d post some pics of the few remaining models I have from the dozen (or more) I built during my childhood and teens. These happen to be the ones done in my late teens (15-20 years ago) and are definitely some of my better workmanship. The only one that’s still around that isn’t pictured here is a 1/48 Memphis Belle, that’s still on display somewhere at my parent’s house, it was also done later and is one of my better looking projects.
I remember that this F7F sat around in a box in the closet for a long time before I got around to putting it together. I’m not sure why I went with yellow instead of a combat scheme, but I think it was because I happened to have a rattle can of yellow handy at the time I built it. And then it was painted without decals for even longer (up until about 6 months ago!). I found the decals when my parents were cleaning out their house and decided to slap them on.
I don’t remember how I ended up with an AD-4W. I LOVE me some Skyraiders, but this variant is totally unappealing to me. No weapons, and it looks like a bloated fish. The paint scheme is very unexciting as well, and seems to hide detail. But it still looks nice.
One of the last Christmases we spent I my grandparents’ house, they got me these two models. Being the very sociable teenager I was, I decided to spend the entire time we were at their house painting and assembling these instead of visiting. These two both have quite a bit of dust on them at the moment.
Of course there were several others that didn’t look very good and got thrown away at some point. Off the top of my head a B-52, USS Arizona, MiG-29, UH-1, F-4, B-25, B-24, P-51, P-47, F4U, PBY… Probably some others I’m forgetting. They were all thrown out a while back.
