First guess - Correct! The borders are just too human smile

If I remember correctly those shots were taken in the late-ish 1500s, which would be mid-1600s in vanilla.

Not pictured how annexing Bulgaria almost killed me. No manpower, no stability, revolts and two front invasion. Quite a shock considering I was 12th rank great power.

Yes, your tidiness gave it away.

Very cool geo-political situation in that one though

Also impressed to see the AI at +3 stability. Some people say it's not worth it and just stay on +2, but if I have the points I just can't resist boosting, I think the bonuses are nice. Of course there's always the chance of getting the comet event a month later but they seem to have really toned that down lately.

Edit: Rule Britannia patch released today, to my surprise my saves loaded up fine despite extra provinces. I was hit by a wave a separatist rebels in territories I'd owned for centuries which was odd. Also got a few decent rebels in un-cored land I wanted to feed to my vassals which made more sense, unusually large stacks though, about 40k.

Sorry, been distracted biggrin

I never pay for stab +3, too rich for my blood. And it's inevitable that I will get a -1 stab event right after. Or that +1 stab I had been hoping for, that now is useless.

All the time I've sunk recently in to Elite has made me think of giving Stellaris another go. I just was so put off by the combat mechanic that I shelved it. I wonder if they've changed it at all since I played last?

Well everything has been given some massive overhauls in the last few months, 2.0 especially ripped up and replaced half the game but it's still 'Stellaris'

It's worth giving it another go but don't get your hopes up.

It might indeed be worth a go. But I'm not sure I'd be throwing money at the DLC. Are you up to date with it?

The thing that made me shelve it was that I got schooled. I had played for 200 hours and expanded in to an impressive empire with vassals and protectorates or whatever and was doing really well. At some point I suppose I got too big and there was like a EU IV HRE coalition thing and the entire lot of them formed in to one single fleet. I had spent the entire game building what I thought was a fleet to rival any. But they came with one five times the size and I watched my glorious navy destroyed. Just gone. I had to merge all of my squadrons because I could see what was coming. But the entire thing was smacked down inside 20 minutes biggrin

Oh the failure.

Lost heart and quit. It would have all been gone soon anyway. So thinking about it, if the AI doesn't simply cram every available vessel in to one giant doomstack then maybe it would be OK.

That sucks, similar things have happened to me, it's part of the game after about 100 years there will be a 'mid-game crisis' and after 200+ an 'end-game crisis' which may well smash you down. They've added a lot of sliders and options in the difficulty settings so you can play on easy with aggressive AI or hard with passive AI etc. Doomstacks are partially gone as there is now a per-fleet command limit.

I have all the major DLCs and most of them are worth the money, at least compared to any other Paradox DLC.

My main complaint is that unless you can really involve yourself in your star empire and/or roleplay everything gets stale, it's like playing every game of EUIV as England. Sure you can change governments or use different strategies but it's still the same base.

Playing every game as England, lol, good one. smile

I think I will give it one more go at some point. I had fun with it up until my ass whoopin', and I'm sure it's better and deeper now with so much time in the oven,.

Hey I actually finished a game!

Mann to Scotland. Well technically I started as England and trashed them, then released vassals and played as Mann. No way a OPM could hold out against British might otherwise. Wanted to play tall but ended up having to build up a bit of an empire to protect myself from neighbours. Ended up saying why not and going on a conquering spree in the mid-late 1700s. Didn't quite make it to Jerusalem and didn't quite hit tech 32.

I call this a pseudo-ironman game as I used only autosaves and never reloaded. Hence why I played somewhat conservatively.

Oh good the peasant rabble are fighting the foreign invaders!

[Linked Image]

More rebels move in from a neighbouring province. Thanks for dragging me into this war at low stability Lithuania...

[Linked Image]

Guess I'll just debase currency, take out some loans and hire some 'Private contracters' to deal with this 'instability'

Ungrateful bastages. Show 'em your heel. Who are you?

I finally burned out on Warhammer yesterday after playing for a few hundred hours and went on Steam to find my next game. I saw the Paradox sale and thought about catching up on EU IV DLC, then decided not to. I considered catching up on Stellaris DLC and then decided not to. I thought about Hearts of Iron IV and then decided not to. Shame it is, but there ya have it. Perhaps one day they will rethink their DLC distribution and I'll be back.

Ended up getting Kingdom Come Deliverance, which I see you have. Still play it?

No, I don't as the game became irreversibly broken and I couldn't stand the thought of playing through from the start again... That said I more than got my money's worth from Kingdom Come. 'Janky and rough but with a heart of gold' would sum it up pretty well. If you have even the slightest interest in RPGs or the mediaeval era then give it a shot, so much love clearly went into making it. One of the most unique games I've played. There is a lot to do, It is hard though.

I am playing as Smolensk as I wanted to try out their rather interesting artillery based ideas - https://eu4.paradoxwikis.com/Smolensk
I started as Lithuania and released all vassals day one. I didn't cripple or cheese them in any way as I want a strong Eastern Europe to defend against Moscow and Istanbul. Since artillery ideas aren't much use until mid-game I'm also content to wait as a vassal, throwing points into development. My dev map will soon be a field of green in a sea or reddish-yellow.

I like the ideas. That's the sandbox isn't it? So many ways to cook up to play.

As for KCD I understand. I can see that happening to me too. But so far so good and I am liking it. I waited 6 months to let it mature and thus far have had no issues.

So as a result of losing simultaneous wars, Lithuania has most of their vassals released. Except me!?

Denmark makes me an offer I can't refuse.

On the next monthly tick... I'm not ready for independence, I'm not over my force limit yet!

So ever since estates were integrated into the base game instead of just the Cossacks DLC I haven't been able to go a single 'run' without getting at least one of the estate disasters such as 'aristocractic coup'. Need more practice...

This man has quite possibly the best worst name in the world, like the name of a fake German count in some cheap TV comedy.
