I had to go to the Frontier forums to get my blab on. But still, a shot of the day
For some reason I think this image is cool. Returning from my first trip in the new Keelback. I'm not a fan of the Coriolis starports, but I've been based at one for weeks. I like the "O" starports as they are easier to find the entrance. I changed the HUD to blue.

DBond,I never have to find the entrance nowadays. If you remember that the docking port to these stations always faces the planet it orbits around you can align yourself to drop out of supercruise facing the entrance (or very close).
Very useful especially if you have a time limit on a mission that's getting close to expiring. Nothing worse than having to boost your way around that big boy with time running out.
Thanks, that's good advice Chucky. I'm complaining yeah, but it's not like I'm flying orbits 'round the thing wondering where the slot is. There are also white lights on one side and red on the other to help orient the pilot to the entrance. Still, I much prefer the Orbis and Ocellus starports. As soon as I drop out the entrance location is immediately known and anyway they are much cooler structures.
I've been based at Fowler Orbital in Dvorsi for a few weeks now, a Coriolis starport. I've spent a lot of time working on faction rep to get good missions. But civil war has broken out and I may be on the move once more. I'd like one of the "O" stations and I would also like to base where there is a material trader, so I will be looking for a new home shortly I think.

Yes, they complement one another. The ADS will reveal the locations of all planetary bodies in the system when used.
The DSS does detailed scans of individual bodies, assessing the composition of each. The DSS works automatically if installed, when running the scanner., with the planet targeted and within range The more mass a body has, the farther the range from which it can be scanned, and engineering can improve the performance of the DSS. If you are exploring, it's essential to have each on board. You will make far more money by running the DSS 'level 3' scans on bodies, especially High Metal Content, Earth-Like and Water Worlds.
I don't know if you caught my post further up about 'bubble exploration' Oden, but for someone in your shoes, that could be an easy money maker and put you in a new ship in short order if so inclined.

Put wherever you happen to be in as the reference system. click 'Get Route' then scroll down the list to find systems that list several of either ELW or TWW. Copy the name and paste in in the galaxy map search window and plot it. It even shows arrival distance to each so you can avoid very long supercruises if desired.
If you think that system was good, try HIP 13425

Still, that's some fine exploration income. Good work. You got 17 million in a single trip? That's almost half of what I got for an 11,000 light year trip so you're definitely finding the good stuff.

A cautionary tale. I see many players talk about running without shields. Not here, but at the FDev forums. They shut them off to save power, or run lower heat. Or they don't mount shields in the first place, usually to maximize cargo capacity by replacing the shield generator with a cargo rack.
As I've said before.... Madness!! It's a highly risky move. There's a thread at the Frontier forums of a commander who flew out to Beagle Point. That's a long way. He must have gathered a fair bit of discovery data along the way, and as we all know, this data is lost if your ship is destroyed.
So this commander had turned his shields off, for what reason I don't know.. He decided to scan a surface beacon and ran right in to it. With no shields. You can guess what that did to his ship. Kaboom. He said 400 million lost. SMDH
Ok,I got cold feet after reading your last post and decided to find the nearest inhabited system and hand in my exploration data. I had taken some hull damage after a few near misses with planets so a full repair was in order.
Anyway,I picked up 61,178,666 million credits that took me from 30% Ranger to 29% Pioneer so I was quite happy with that.
