Is that true? It used to be lost but they changed it? That could reduce anxiety and make me a more bold adventurer!

I'm sitting at my son's soccer practice and cant search well on my phone to find the thread, but I was reading the exploration section of the Frontier forums and there is a player there who made an incredible exploration journey. Something like 50,000 systems scanned. He made a map showing his route and he's flown all the way around the universe. Ive still a half hour to kill so will have a look for it. I remember thinking about this guy getting blown up as he neared the end and how he would lose it all.

OK, it was 21,000 systems and 19 BILLION in explo data. Insane.

IIRC, if you lost your ship, you lost your data. Also, data was tied to ships so if you swapped ships, that data stayed on that ship. Might need to test if these are still true. I may be slightly confused here as I've done some honking with my Cutter and might explain the 600K's worth of exploration data, although I think that's a bit high considering it's only about 2-3K per system honked.

Ran a few fairly short sightseeing missions last night to generate some funds in order to purchase a new power plant for the Python. Saw some cool stuff. A system called Carthage was highly militarized, seems to be a base hub for the Empire. They have some awesome ships in their navy. You guys have probably seen all of this stuff, but it's new to me.

Interdictor. Would love to have one of these!

Look at those beasts, moored at the dock. Does the game ever have battles with ships like these fighting the Fed perhaps? Would love to see these going up against Federal Navy Battlecruisers

This shot just seems to capture the essence of Elite

Sweet Mother of Love, that Interdictor looks like it could annihilate me in a split second.
I am still looking for The Orville, anyone seen her?

Yeah, I bet you could fit a half dozen Anacondas inside that ring engine thing. These ships are massive. You think about the biggest ships we can fly, how much firepower they can wield. And then realize they are like spitballs compared to these things.

Not exactly exploration-related, since I was gathering materials. I landed on a planet, actually Hruntia 2 which is the destination in the last screenshot above. Anyway I was driving around and saw some new rock thing that I hadn't come across yet. I decided to see if it could be scooped up before shooting it. And drove right up on to it and got stuck. Hopelessly. No amount of thruster, or roll, or forward and reverse would budge the SRV.

DBond got stuck on a rock. Don't be like DBond.

Do you not see scoopable items on the small scoop-up box on the left side of the HUD? So if it does not show up there, then it isn't scoopable? Never done any SRV scooping before, so curious.

I don't know, haven't noticed. It was only my second SRV deployment, and it's still rather new. It wasn't that big, just big enough to lift all of my tires off the surface. Can't recall what it was called, not just 'outcropping'. It was two words and I think the first started with B and the second with C. Veteran surface plunderers will know what it was.

Bronzite Chondrite!

Saw it in this thread.

Well, you know when you open the cargo hatch to scoop up canisters in space? You'll also get a tone to denote how close you are to picking it up.... I expect you'd get the same for scoopable items on the surface? So if you didn't get that, it wouldn't have been scoopable.

Have you boosted out of the rock?

In a manner of speaking, yes. I hit the 'log back in non-Horizions mode' button.

I've had a few close calls and among others my last SRV adventure almost got me stuck under the Cobra just as I deployed it due to very uneven ground - got a little frustrated to be honest (and I was close enough to the site that I got a wanted tag even before I got to land - really small area in like Rocky Mountains on steroids).
I need a second slot for a huge angry CAT bulldooozer.

On my first SRV joy ride, the one that didn't end with me in tears and finely balanced on top of a rock, I had come over a hill and suddenly there were three skimmers there. They were guarding? some canisters that were rolling around on the ground. I stopped cold, and we all looked at each other, then I slowly backed away, and wondered what I missed out on with those canisters.

What's the best thing to do here?

Run Forrest, RUN!
biggrin

(well written, got a clear picture of the situation haha)

Edit:
Despite being new I think stuff you find will be bad cargo when police scans your ship, right?
Could be worth the risk though if it's valuable canisters.

I ran across a series of events last night at those random signals while gathering exploration data. First was a wreckage, but had a log about testing an experimental shield or something, then they got jumped.
Next signal was a bunch of cops investigating the area to find out what happened. The next signal I found more wreckage and the experimental device. It was illegal salvage, for some reason, but I went to scoop it up, thinking I could sell it on the black market. Then I realized I didn’t have any cargo space. D’OH!
Thought about jumping out of the system to grab a cargo hold, but I figured it would be gone by then and it seemed unlikely to be able to find it again. So
I shot it. If I can’t have it, no one can.

That's the spirit!

Oden, you've tangled with skimmers right? What happens if you open up on three of them with the SRV, any idea?

The few times I had them around they shot at me like mad and I was running away screaming like a little girl looking for my ship to get the heck out of there.
But I now expect you to open up on them and come back and give us a detailed report.
Youtube or twitch link is ok too.
