So, the new sci-fi movie "Annihilation" which was released in the US two weeks ago has now been released world.-wide.

On Netflix.

Seems the makers of the movie felt it was seen as too "intellectual", after audience feedback in the US, for a general theater worldwide. Instead Netflix picked up the rights for a hefty sum and released it on Non-US Netflix this week,

Looking forward to watching it biggrin

Welcome to how the rest of the world has had it for eternity.

You know Battlestar Galactica was released on Amazon Prime? Except only in the US.

Regional Availability #%&*$#, in this day and age it could be seen as being racist, maybe we should file a complaint about it? smile
I
t was bad enough when films etc. were released on NTSC VHS cassettes and you had to wait months or more to get them on PAL tapes - at least I had a VCR that could take NTSC tapes and play them back on PAL TVs, even now I had to pay extra to get my first Bluray player unlocked for both Blurays and DVDs so I can play videos from where ever and when ever I want.

My son has been watching Suits on Netflix and oh it does not have all the seasons, he has seen 4 of them but the next 3 are not available in Europe yet, same with a lot of programs

soapbox sigh cuss2

"Annihilation" tanked at the box office but a big factor behind that is that the movie was released one week after "Black Panther". Big mistake.

Doesn't affect me one bit. I've had the entire series on bluray for several years now!

Equally stupid. I understand it being on one service or another, but not the regional stuff. The rest of the world got Star Trek Discovery on Netflix, but I had to subscribe to an additional service to watch it. Apparently this one was produced in the US and the UK, so why single out one or the other?
Looks like we’ll be seeing Pacific Rim after all, I won’t go to this one. They DID make a bad decision releasing near Black Panther, we chose that one of the two due to the reviews last month.

Watched some of Annihilation, and enjoying it so far, just got to the scene by the hut in the water smile love the music too. My wife came in, spotted it was Sci Fi straight away*, and I had to turn it off, will watch the rest of it tonight when she goes to her bobbin lace class.

*She absolutely hates Sci Fi with a passion.

It's been advertised on the Netflix landing page from the start of this week.

If you are in the US, you cannot see the movie on Netflix. At least not for a while.

Just pre-bought it on Itunes. No date given for release yet.

I'll be watching it when it's available on my Comcast "on demand" service.

Just watched it and though it was pretty good. I like the new scifi that doesn't feel obligated to give exposition dumps and events as inexplicable but open to thought. Actually makes me want to read the book it was based off of.

Also reminded me of HP Lovecraft's "The Colour Out of Space". I know the movie is not quite 100% based on the book but the movie seems heavily influenced by HPL's story.

Saw it last week and liked it. Probably won’t need to watch again, but it was good. I like how they spent a reasonable amount of time setting up the situation and then dove in. Unlike movies like Contact and The Abyss that barely spent any time on what I wanted them to explore.

The Abyss director's cut version which has the extended ending is a huge improvement over the theatrical version.
