I have just finished an online help session re the AVG free antivirus program.
My latest installation was intermittently finding a possible problem with the eaw.exe, putting it in the virus vault and requiring a re-boot.
With earlier versions AVG would flag the exe as dodgy, but give me the choice to ignore the possible threat.
What I learned today is that an entire folder can be listed as an exception, so nothing it it will be checked by AVG.
Consequently I have added the folder we use at GameRanger to the exceptions list, and I will be adding my other EAW folders too.

Norton finds several of your proggys suspect but, you can allow them in the flagging screen then use without a problem.

Its common since there are many versions of the eaw.exe so the hashes / checksums don't match.
And since the progam uses DirectPlay it can connect to a network which my be flagged as 'suspect' by virus scanners, etc.

Perhaps there is an error in the upload?

I use a different antivirus, but it doesn't normaly find eaw.exe suspicious. If it does I can exclude the exe from the scan during game mode. (full screen optimized)

FsFOOT is right, its painful with the many versions of eaw.exe out there that the CRC checks or IDing by windows is nearly impossible.

The AVG solution to the problem was great for me. obviously I have several EAW folders installed, but now I can exempt entire folders from a scan. That is exactly what I have done
