Being the lazy cuss I am, I didn’t find a good guide about it on a quick scan of the forum.

Had to get a new computer and that meant Win10. I see some have it running, but want to know best way to install and get the old girl running.

May need a mentor on this.

Do you want to install the original, or one of the later versions?
I have several different ones running in Win10 with no problems, and there are a number of downloads available from the site links in my signature wink

I am open to different ones. First I think I want to install the regular from my disc. Then do a few mods on it. Then I want to try the new one that you wizards have developed.

I guess when I get back home I will do an install from the original disc and let you know. Does it require using a compatibility mode ?

I would just copy over the files you need from the CD and paste them in a folder on your hd such as \EAW

Then run either 1.1 or v1.2 official patch into that folder.

The game will run without compat modes.

Thanks Mark. I just read your instructions in the EAW help thread on how to properly do that. Your instructions were very good. That was what I needed; instructions like you would give to your mentally challenged nephew.

I’ll let you know how it went in about 5 days when I get back home.

I think that was a compliment in there. Thanks, and your welcome for the instructions.

Hopefully the help doc with help guide you properly.
It also provides troubleshooting info to run the game with the best choices.

If you need further instructions or questions feel free to ask.

Been lazy and distracted by other things. Hope to try in a couple days.

Right now we are getting our big hangar cookout organized. We do this every three or four months. Use my hangar and my buddies next to me. Invite all the local pilots, their families and friends for a day of eating and airplanes. Maybe 17 airplanes this time. All different sorts and we spend the day going up in planes we haven’t flown, so everyone gets to put something else in their logbook. Take people up for free rides.

We’ve done this three times and each one gets better.

And Mark, that was definitely a compliment. Often people give instructions that assume someone already is familiar with some of the steps.

Thanks for checking back with me.

I don't know why I said that about the compliment, as in doubting it. I was tired when I wrote that post.

I been reviewing my help document and trying to stream line it a bit and put all the complicated stuff at the end of the doc.
So it's np problem if you need me to move or rewrite something or even add a step in it.

Your welcome for the checking in bit. Have fun at the cook out. Sounds like fun.
I should be around here when your ready, if you need help.

OK ! I motivated myself to dig around and get the external hard drive that I had an old version of EAW running on. Connected it and opened the EAW folder where I had done an installation. Ran the application execution and ........

IT RAN ! No compatibility needed. Just ran from the old drive. Version 1.28c.

Had to go and recalibrate my stick, but once done I was able to fly it like old times. I have to go and reconfigure some of my stick buttons, but 5hat is small potatoes.

Next thing is to have you all help me set up a more advanced version. What I want to do is leave my existing one alone and add a completely different one.

But EAW runs on my Win10 just fine.

Told the wife that I had got another of my old programs running again and she said “I heard. I remember that one very well.” I’m not sure she is as happy about it as I am.

Check the last posts in the MSN files thread. I am happy to give you a link to the full installation folder of the latest version of 160.
No CDFs are needed, you just need your own "eaw.ini" file to replace mine.

wink Jel
