Everyone gets shot down or crashes in this game...eventually. Even me. smile
Curious as to your most ridiculous, dumb, bad luck in-game fatality you have ever had.
Mine was several years ago. Even posted a pic here.

Flying with J11 in March or April 1917 in my trusty Alb DIII. The Kette was involved in a dogfight that ended up low over No-Man’s Land. Think I just scored a victory but, ultimately, it hardly mattered.
Was not really paying attention to where I was and I thought I was over German lines when I heard the dreaded rata-tat-tat of MG fire real close. Threw my plane into a tight turn looking and looking for the enemy as the gunfire continued and I was taking hits. Must have cleared my tail and circled 6 times, twisting my head like Linda Blair, gunfire continuing, before I was finally shot down and killed.
What the heck? WW1 stealth aircraft? Kind of dumbfounded I looked at my smoking crater and I noticed something real close by. Switch to camera view and not only was I over the British trenches still but I was circling nicely (and low) over a Vickers MG position I could now see plain as day. Basically it was he that shot me down (no other aircraft around) and he must have been laughing mightily at the silly Alb flying tight circles right over his head. Laughing didn’t interfere with his accuracy though! 12 victory ace IIRC and just got my custom paint job. *Sigh*

Every time I get nailed by flak for chasing a scout over enemy lines on the deck is more ridiculous than the last but I just keep doing it.

That and the time when Triggers killed me on the second training flight, you know the ones where you're meant to sit in the self loading luggage bay and observe, by making a low approach into some trees by the airfield perimeter, my one and only death in training.

Let's pretend I got the BWOC badge to embed here.

Killed by a fence at the end of the airfield after a great mission, being injured by enemy bullets, some probable enemy craft downed, a nice landing and an overconfident roll out.

For me, this one:

So I came down for a nice landing on the grass (not on the shore texture), shut off my engine and ctrl-qed my way out. Neither myself nor my observer were hit and the plane was not overly damaged. Needless to say, I was surprised to learn that, like many a pilot in the Great War, I had died...?!?! Huh? Here's the screen cap of the details screen:

I wish I had known, I would have saved the shadowplay file... Pol, Winder, anybody know what would cause this?
Fortunately, thanks to Robert, I am back from the dead, with only a few missions to make up. I'm a little bummed about that, but hardly suicidal! rofl
Thanks!

.

My most ridiculous WOFF death has to be the time when I shed a lower portside wing on an N11 and spiraled down like an elm seed into a lake. I survived the initial impact but my kite then burst into flames a second or two later and I died before I could exit. Wish I had been running FRAPS during that mission as the video would have been a keeper.

Well I managed to taxi right into the open hangar just after touch down escaping a strafing enemy at my airfield. I throttled in a wee bit to fast and crashed into the back wall...voila..dead..Must have broke my neck or cracked my coconut good. Should have had the camera rolling on that Lou...would be a classic

I had a gentlemen flying DH2s that had flown for 30 or so hours. He had survived countless engagements and even having to ditch close to the front on a couple of occassions. Then one mission, not far out from taking off the engine started making noise. Before I knew it, his crate was on fire and even shutting the engine off and diving for the ground didn't get me down to land fast enough. I kid you not, the flames got hotter and hotter until at just tree top level, he succumed to the fire, crashed and died. Not a Gerry in sight. Spinning incinerators indeed!

Mine was more a mix of Laziness and "Hey! I know my way around here"-Attitude... so I lost a 200+ Missions Camel flying Super-Ace to a Tree while landing on my own Home Airfield. duh
Extremely stupid, because there was no need for any Hurry, Weather was fine and no other Planes around in the Air. Usually I fly at least a slight quarter of a Circle, when approaching the Airfield - helps, to make sure that there are no Obstacles in the Way when Landing... but not this time. So, just because you did something a couple of hundred times before, it doesn't mean that you can stop paying Attention...

Human nature, and that is why there are so many car accidents due to complacency and lack of attention. Each day is a challenge to be "Tuned In".

Absolutely. We often discussed the many Aspects of WOFF, that makes it so realistic. For example, the average Surviving-Time of Pilots in WW1 compared to our own Surviving-Times during our Contests, here. So, this "Lack-of-Attention-Accidents" are another realistic Aspect, apparently wounded
