RIP - lost some wing canvass on too steep a dive which impacted controls. I recovered fine but when I peeled off from an attack on a low flying Aviatik, I lost control and didn't have enough altitude to get it back. Dead on impact. Aviatik went down in flames, but it was dumb of me not to just head for home once control had been impacted. Nearly 80 hours of flying time over in like 3 seconds. He tore up the EIIIs in his DH2 though. He will be missed.

That´s quite a feat Hellshade, I often find myself reconsidering my dumb actions after getting overconfident...and losing yet another pilot. It feels so frustrating not to be smart all the time no matter what. Surviving this war is an art in itself.

Hellshade;

It's not the first time any of us have got complacent and I doubt it will be the last. Having it happen to such a consummate flyer as yourself just goes to show we can all succumb to that trait if not careful

I feel your pain Hellshade. We've all done the same, get up there in hours and experience with a pilot only to lose it all in a single poor decision. Yet another WOFF virtual pilot now flying with the angels. He had a helluva run though, eh?

High over the Front
58 kills in 6 weeks?
The RFC will definitely miss this pilot.

I so empathize with you! I've had multiple pilots meet their end in situations like that. The most recent was a guy who survived flying Pfalz D-III for a year or something. His first mission with the vaunted Fokker D-VII ended when he collided with a crummy SPAD. He and his group were attacking the airfield. They collided and that was it!
