I hope nobody bought GE. Since we were talking about it a month ago GE has taken big loss in a booming market. Down about 12 1/2 % in that month while the markets have gone up about 1/2%. 13% in a month is a heavy hit. And it’s down almost 44% year-to-date while the markets are up almost 20%. It’s not just the down, it’s missing the up. In this link change the 5 days to 1 month. Then change it to YTD year to date. http://money.cnn.com/quote/quote.html?symb=GEAnd I think GE has more downside. I’d think of being a buyer around $17.15. But GE doesn’t have a very healthy outlook. I’m not in agreement with the long term buy/hold that was suggested.

GE restructuring and layoffs is a concern. Sometimes it takes that to change focus and get rid of things that are not working out. But it can also be the thrashing of a dying animal. http://fossilfuel.energy-business-r...o-reduce-structural-costs-081217-5997202

GE has provided dividends to many investors for years so it will be interesting to see how GE does (current dividend yield 2.71%)

GE shot themselves in the foot by cutting their dividend, though they had no choice. There's better dividend plays out there, no need to mess with a sick, beached whale.
On a side note... I just sold 1/2 my FSLR. Darn thing jumped up 5 bucks in a day, over 20 bucks in a month. I'll keep the other half in for a bit longer to see if it goes further, but with next year's revenue drop and wishy-washy earnings forecast(operating income and stated eps predictions don't match up), the risk is really high.

Good luck with that VF9. Holding on to it might well lead to good things, depending on how the breakup (if it happens) sorts out.
I wouldn't buy right now, or anytime in the past year, but if I already had it then holding can be a good bet.
I dumped CAT a few years back when it seemed a bit shaky. I still made a profit but I wish I had held it now.

Another reason to be cautious about GE. http://money.cnn.com/2018/01/18/investing/ge-pension-immelt-breakup/index.htmlI had said I would look at GE at $17.25, but then all the indicators showed continued weakness. It has dropped lower and looks to continue that decline. https://www.gurufocus.com/stock/GEI would shelve any thought of investing in GE.

I was considering it but not above $10.

And keeping with the GE narrative. Now $15.64 and no signs that it has bottomed.
It has dropped 19% since we started talking about it; and that is in a rising market.
