Must admit I am really quite enjoying this series, it gets better, colour me hooked
Just started episode 7 and thinking maybe I need to read the books as well.
My one complaint is that sometimes the dialogue is indistinct for my hearing especially when the background music gets too much to the foreground, it's my hearing that's to blame, but it makes some scenes incomprehensible to me.
Chlanna nan con thigibh a so's gheibh sibh feoil Sons of the hound come here and get flesh Clan Cameron
Its not your ears, i'm having trouble hearing dialog even without the music because the actor just cannot speak up or the audio engineer is severely deaf from recording the combat scenes.
Huh, I've had no trouble understanding or listening to his dialogue in any of the episodes.
I have trouble separating sounds, I have had this problem since my 16th birthday.
On my birthday I was taken to a pop concert featuring Mungo Jerry, String Driven Thing and The JSD Band. My father and I were standing 6ft from the loud speaker stack, while at the start of the concert the JSD band was playing in front of the speakers and they were not too loud but when Mungo Jerry came on they came on to a different stage and they blasted their music LOUDLY out of the speakers in front of us, my hearing got damaged and my father became deaf in his left ear from that time onwards
On the way back from the concert there was a bad accident at the end of the road that we lived on and the police had closed the road, we recognised the small van that had been in the accident as belonging to one of the guys that worked for my father, the whole right front of the van was missing, you could see the engine but there was no wheel arch, wing/fender or front wheel, it was imbedded in the front of the car that was about 150 yards down the road, at this time there was no maximum speed limit on the open road and the police had estimated the other cars speed at over 115mph.
There were no injuries and we got to repair both cars, the other car was a Mk1 Lotus Cortina, quite a tasty machine for it's day.
Quite a memorable night, joy of the great concert, mixed with regret about our hearing and relief that Alasdair was not hurt in the accident.
Now, 45 years later and my hearing is not as good as it was bittersweet memories, now I'm off to listen to some summertime blues and a bit of baby jump

I have that problem with almost all TV shows, that's why I have closed captioning enabled all the time.

Admittedly, I've only watched the first episode, but I'm not go down another sci-fi show rabbit hole like I did with "The Expanse", which I thought began well, but devolved into garbage. In a nut-sack, graphic violence, frequent views of female sexual anatomy, poor audio engineering/mumbling dialogue, which seems to be a common feature of movies and TV shows today, and insipid acting. Finally, if I have to read dialogue while watching TV, F it, I'll read the book.
I have read the books and although I like what they did with the show, I cannot understand why they changed the story. No spoilers, but I don't feel the changes made it better. The good news is it's got more edge than what we've seen before.
Now I'm hoping for Hyperion might make it in it's full glory.
No book is really 1:1 translatabe to the little or big screen. Doing so is a classic recipe for a train wreck.
Both Ty Frank and Daniel Abraham are producers on "The Exapanse" (they are the authors behind the pseudunym "James S A Corey"), and such they have quite a say in the adaptation. They might have seen elements in the books that they wanted to remove, or expand, or change when they had the opertunity to adjust the story for TV.

+1
Just look at Blade Runner as an example. It made quite a few changes and even expanded on the Phillip K. Dick story.

Also look at "The Walking Dead". It is my contention that trying to follow the comic books too closely is a big part of why that series is now floundering so.

Some changes have been for the better. The Raven and Poe are more interesting than the Hendrix IMO. I like Ortega in the show too. You have to do something in a show to introduce the world to the viewer, tv being visual, and developing her and going into her family is a great way of doing it. Other characters are combined, but it’s not bad. The only thing I don’t care for is the change in the nature of the Envoys. It doesn’t ruin it though.
As for The Expanse, the tv version is actually a better presentation of the characters and over all situation in their worlds. It’s more seamless and it works. The books each drop in characters for that book and kind of abandon them or barely include them later. On tv that would come across as disjointed and poorly written. As it is, they show you what’s going on from multiple perspectives and settings so you have a better timeline of events and what key characters are doing. It invests you more in the characters.
But that’s just my opinion. I love these shows. Both have complex stories you rarely get outside of books.
Just finished watching this, not sure really. I liked parts of it. I especially like the hotel AI But it became more of a detective story than a sci-fi action that I was hoping for, really. Too much talking, too little pew-pew, I guess, and I was expecting more pew-pew. I was emotionally connected to the characters by the end though, so that's always a good thing if the show can make the viewer care about the characters.

Definitely, but that's how the book goes too. Detective story, some hand to hand fights for the most part, but more story than action. The other 2 books are pretty different, not detective based but action/adventure. The first was my favorite though.
Game of Thrones opened to 2,2 million viewers, and quickly picked up traction. By the season 7 finale they had 12 million viewers in the US.
True, but Game of Thrones went down the #%&*$# after season 4. Season 5 and 6 were quite spotty with the quality of writing and plotting, often with several struggling episodes in a row. Not that I can completely blame Benioff and Weiss, as Martin's later books were often criticized for similar reasons. But the books haven't gotten as far as the show has yet...

The seasons are either too short or too far apart. Too much time to build up expectations, not enough time to make proper progress to feel satisfied. It started getting interesting again last season, but it took too long to get there due to the way they do their releases.

You and MadDog are arguing over two totally different issues. He's talking about how the show has increased its popularity as evidenced by the increase in ratings and you are talking about your own personal opinions on the show.
