The vast majority of the world's population, by number of countries, number of people, number of cars and/or miles of roads drive from the left hand side of the car.

Nice to look at but not to drive. Having driven old ( and I don't mean 70s ) cars ; including British and American....I can assure you that the brakes suck, the ride is either rock hard or the handling is bad, the clutch is heavy and the gear change is harsh. Beautiful to look at but a pain to drive I drove ( never owned ) a few E-Types and have an XK8

For the last several months I had been on the search for a Jag E-type convertible. I never found the right car at the right price. I could a right car but not a right price or a right price but not a right car. To get a good car I was over $85,000. During the search I got to drive a couple and will absolutely backup Archie’s observations. A friend has an E-type Coupe and to appreciate the car you have to go back in time 45 years and evaluate it for that era. He let me drive it a good bit a couple days since he knew I was looking. He wanted me to be sure what I was getting into. Today’s cars are so far ahead in smooth engines, tight responsive steering, adaptive suspension, interior construction, shifter and clutch, and all the little goodies like good heating and a/c and sound system. New cars have better horsepower and twice the fuel mileage.
The old classics just really aren’t that good. You have to really get into the frame of mind that you are appreciating the vintage aura of them. Like a stream locomotive. In many ways it is about the look. The new cars all look so similar. The older ones had distinct character.
While looking for a right Jag E-type in Naples Florida I showed the wife another car I was drawn to and she really liked it. Much more than the E-type. So I got that.

My dad had a similar experience with a 67 Mustang OG. As a responsible parent of two kids he didn't buy one in 1967 and had been pining for one ever since. About 5 years ago a couple of them came on the market and he went and test drove them and just hated the way they handled. These were really nicely done restorations but the rides were too rough, the steering too loose, and he couldn't see out of them very well. He hasn't mentioned owning one since.
Wheels My father has had a few Jaguars, an SS100, MkVII, MkVIII, S-Type 3.8, and a Mk10, a couple of his friends raced Jaguars, D-Type, XK120, and MkVII. I never seen the SS100, I was not even born then, but the rest I have seen and been in except the D-Type which I could only admire from a distance. The Mk 8 was the first car I was in that went over 100mph, the family were going to Stirling and just before Stirling there is a long stretch of road, about 7miles long with a gentle bend in the middle, we hit 115mph on the speedo going along that bit of road. The Mk8 is the one he had the longest but it was not a practical car for him, tho we as a family loved going out in it, red leather seats and folding walnut tables in the back, 3.8lt 4speed manual with overdrive, it was a nice car and it was still running around in the late 1970s, a friend of my uncle had it then and he said it could still easily top 100mph Reading about the Mk VII on Wiki https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jaguar_Mark_VII a couple of names jump out Ian Appleyard and Jimmy Stewart, Ian ran a garage on the way up to Glasgow, not far from where Jackie Stewart had his garage and Jimmy Stewart was Jackie's older brother, he was great friends with the family and it was him that gave me my first run in an Aston Martin DBS when Aston first launched it. Never owned a Jaguar, nearest was the MGA coupé which if you squinted right was a similar-ish shape as an XK120 Thinking on cars that disappoint when you actually drive them was the BMW 530i that I had fancied for a long time, and then when I could afford to buy one I took a test drive and it was so disappointing, I just did not get on with it, so bought the MG ZT 260 instead which was a much more involving and live driving experience plus it had a lovely V8 sound track

Only owned 2 British cars. A Morris Minor that had to have a fire lite under it in winter to get started and a Triumph GT6+ that had the rear radius arms attached to the floor. They did not stay attached for very long.
There was only 16 squadrons of RAF fighters that used 100 octane during the BoB. The Fw190A could not fly with the outer cannon removed. There was no Fw190A-8s flying with the JGs in 1945.

Anyone want to buy my 2003 Jaguar S-Type ? It mostly just collects dust down in the garage. Damn nice car, electrical gremlins got the best of me. Some things never change. When I was in high school (early 70's) my buddy had a TR6. It was more of a hobby than a form of transportation. On the plus side, I learned quite a bit about how to take apart, and reassemble, a car.

Not feeling it. I don't share others' appreciation for the aesthetics of that particular automobile.
No, now go away or I shall taunt you a second time!

Hi all. One of the most gorgeous cars built, ever. And an original would still be a fast car today.
Want a treat about the Jaguar XKSS?
Google 'Steve McQueen Jaguar XKSS'
It still exists, and the history on the car, both technical and regarding McQueen, is a great read.
What kind of car is that? What does it matter? When I drive it, I'm Steve McQueen

Because they have Lucas refrigerators. Bought it for my wife, she loves it. The Color mostly. She has no clue how much work I put into it only find out that I need tear apart wiring loom into the trunk to find a hot wire leaking juice. Not my cup a tea thanks. Watched few videos, those guys are pros. No way I could do it that easy. Sad that she a stroke 4 months after buying it, she never did get to drive it. I just charge once a week. I should just put disconnect switch to the battery.

Because they have Lucas refrigerators. By the same token, there are no working lights in Brit refrigerators, unless the kitchen is so bright you already don't need the light to work. A friend has an old Triumph Bonneville. Beautiful bike. He doesn't ride it at night.
