For some reason, I'm getting the itch to play this game again. Maybe because the trading and stuff was much more rewarding compared to Elite Dangerous....
Anyway, I have X3 Reunion, Terran Conflict, and Albion Prelude. Is one better than the other? Or do they all tie in to each other?
Between the 3, I would play Albion Prelude with the Litcube Universe Mod. Love X3, there's no better economic sandbox, but the combat is uninteresting - just HP bars... they should mix some X:Rebirth + World of Warships damage system in the X4. In all honesty, they should just copy the system of Starsector (but in 3d): best combat of any space game that I've played.
Speaking of which, take a look at Starsector: it's in alpha right now (but long time on development), it's kind of X3 mixed with Mount and Blade campaign. The game isn't on Steam right now, but in some months it will be like Factorio: the game will arrive so complete and patched that will get 90%+ reviews from the users. It's 2D, but the combat have a depth that Egosoft will take some decades to achieve.
Mostly automation (lots of quality of life improvements), AI changes, UI improvements, and a far better endgame (game doesn't lack challenge after you have your empire). It's a mod with a lot of under-the-hood modifications that add up in something bigger than the sum of it's parts. You can think of it as "vanilla+++": there's simply no reason not to use it instead of the vanilla.
Thanks!! I'm currently watching some tutorial videos, like this one and I wonder if I can follow the tutorial with the Litcube mod on? Or do I need to play along the tutorial first, get a handle on things, then play again later on with the Litcube mod installed?

I've only run it back when I was on Vista. Try going into properties on the shortcut and set it to compatibility mode for Vista or xp. Seems like it should work though. If I remember I'll give it a go tomorrow.
So uh, Star Wars for X3. Yeah. It looks pretty rad:
I played some last night. My only issue with the X series remains though--awesome sandbox where you can do so much, but so empty of story. Star Wars alleviates some of that but... damn do I wish X was as refined as Ultima 6 or 7.
Thanks for that Blastman. I downloaded it last night and messed around with it some. I'll have to wait until after the holiday to put any time on it. It might finally be a replacement for the old Tie Fighter. Also X3 is on sale at GOG for about $7 if you don't already have it.
If you look closely, you can see my Millennium Falcon. It's tiny compared to my Venator, which can hold 50 fighters and... billions of guns.
Let's take a moment of silence to reflect on the three traders who lost their lives so I could earn my latest round of 180 million credits. I will neglect them no more. I have now decided firepower is a worthwhile expenditure to protect them and their families.
Did you use sector and universe traders? I've started a new game in x3 four times, and each one I played differently. My latest, exploiting sector and universe traders, is my best. I have sixteen farming for me and have all sorts of giant goodies - star destroyers, cruisers, corvettes, etc.

Giving this a go with the Star Wars mod. It's friggin beautiful! Still slow paced, but not bad. Enabled some cheats to make it more Star Wars and less X3, but the game doesn't seem to like that and locked up hard after a few gates. Tried without them and it's running well, if choppy during big fights. Pretty fun so far. I have a couple of ships but I don't know how to sell them or get them working for me to make some $$$. I'll check out some tutorials. It's worth it just for the eye candy though.
