For someone that completely uninstalled DCS from my hard drive, how do I find and download the 2.5 open beta? I couldn't find it on the DCS website...

Install 1.5 then make shortcut.

...\DCS World\Bin\DCS_updater.exe" update @openbeta

The 1.5OB installer is no longer available, so that may, or may not work. If it does not then you will have to wait until the v2.5 OB installer is available, which should be in the next day or two.

EDIT: Apparently converting your v1.5 to v1.5 OB is working.

If you don't have the open beta installed, use the updater with DCS_Updater.exe update @openbeta to convert your 1.5.8 Stable Release installation to the Open Beta branch and download 2.5.

According to posts on the ED forum. I had the OB installed so I did not test it personally.

I'm assuming this new version has the copy-protection scheme installed? I'm becoming less and less likely to install Russian software with encryption.

No worries, new DRM is only on AV8B for now.
Other modules seems planned for new DRM though but should not be affected for now.

Yes it does. Skip it then, other sims to play.
Side note, since 1991, Eagle Dynamics has never once been accused of stealing any money or data from consumers computers. Let's be real clear for a second, I am not a die hard fanboi, but there is no need to yell "smoke" when there is none.

I think the smoke he's looking at is the fact that the new DRM expects to be able to "phone home" every 3 days and if you're off grid, be it deployed abroad or whatever, your DCS modules will cease to run until you get back online.
At least I didn't see him complain over getting robbed or sold to 3rd parties, but I'm not native english reader.

2.5 isn't out until it's out for the main branch, not this volunteer unpaid fan tester branch.

Downloaded a fresh 1.5.8. Opened it to make sure it worked. Updated to 2.5 beta. Several hours later... crashes on startup and won't open.

Awesome. I guess that's what I get for beta...
