More about our friendly co-residents: A 24-year-old man has died in a Tamworth hospital, in northeast NSW, after he tried to save his dog, who had a brown snake in its mouth. The man was standing in the backyard of his Cole Road home in West Tamworth on Wednesday about 10pm when he noticed his dog had picked up a snake in its mouth. It is believed the snake had been hissing in distress at the dog when the man grabbed it and was bitten hard on the hand. The Australian understands the man ran to show the snake to his mother, who had been asleep at the time, and told her “Mum, look what bit me”. His mother then put the snake into a coffee jar and raced her son to Tamworth hospital, where he died 40 minutes later. NSW Police took control of the snake but were unable to kill it as brown snakes are considered an endangered species. The snake was then dropped off at a local veterinary surgery. The death has been referred to the coroner who will prepare a report on the cause of death. Per The Australian today. That's how it goes.

No offense but I don't know how anyone could or would want to live there! Out of the top 10 most dangerous animals in the world, Oz has like 7 of them!
Hats off to all of you that DO live there. You're all tougher than nails!

Hats off to all of you that DO live there. You're all tougher than nails! Yes, because they all live in tents in the wilderness. Having handled scorpions, tarantulas and venomous snakes, I am fairly certain that you still have to work at getting killed by one.

And you blame the SNAKE in all of this????
Since your expressed, in another thread, that California couldn't sink into the ocean fast enough, despite having done nothing to you but provide #%&*$# movies and #%&*$# social media (which can be safely ignored) I suggest you find a habitat for yourself that meets all your requirements - or accept that you are a hypocrite. Sorry to hear that Harryw. You're quite wrong, you know, it wasn't the snake's fault true, but neither was it the man's. These things happen, I have had many "incidents" with snakes and I think I know them well. We here in Oz if we live in bush, interface with all these creatures constantly. A few years ago I found a nest of baby tiger snakes in my yard (no idea where Mum was), and carefully relocated them to nearby bushland. I am no murderer of animals. I did express myself poorly though insofar I may have inferred that it should be 'open season" on these predators. Anyway the man is dead and the snake is alive and wriggling... happy? I have killed a taipan once on my verandah in North Queensland, a public danger, one of the few snakes that will attack a human on sight, also pythons that were after my chooks, they were grateful at least. We deal with snakes on an individual basis, for instance the red-bellied black snake is shy of humans though very venomous and is a predator on young Western Brown snakes, which are very aggressive to humans. We treat them differently, though all are protected legally. I'm sure you can imagine what I do if I find a Western Brown in my yard? I love my dogs more than any snake. Crocs are in a different category and IMO should be restricted to defined areas of the North well away from population centres. My comment on California was obviously intended as humorous, but politically the overwhelming population of the state would consider me a deplorable racist fascist, I return the compliment. They can get knotted. Let's please leave it at that we don't want to stray into PWEC areas. My snake thread was of general interest, and my California comment was supposed to be a joke, OK?

Funny thing MM...
Every snake I have seen was intent on committing suicide by constantly hitting it's head against a shovel .. more so the King brown of which my Son and I nearly stepped on as we were walking out the back door of my Hotel. I tried to save it but it would not listen! Maybe I need to persist a little more in my snake language communication.
Ah well, I will try to improve
Cheers

Understood. The combo of posts caught me at a bad time. My comment on California was obviously intended as humorous, but politically the overwhelming population of the state would consider me a deplorable racist fascist, I return the compliment. They can get knotted.
You would probably be surprised how few people, even in CA, would give a rat's a$$ about your political views as long as you're somewhat pleasant to be around. As anywhere else, the public image is shaped by the few squeaky wheels. Most just want to get on with their lives.

Mad Max ....."Let's please leave it at that we don't want to stray into PWEC areas. My snake thread was of general interest, and my California comment was supposed to be a joke, OK?" The snake comments were deliberate and i was offended and SHOCKED that this was not posted in PWEC. Panzer and I will discuss this to see what further action we will take.
