I would feel slightly ripped off if I'd just paid $79.99 and now it's reduced and on sale before it is even released...

I would feel slightly ripped off if I'd just paid $79.99 and now it's reduced and on sale before it is even released... That makes no sense. How would that happen since this is the first chance to buy it? You would have to wait until release to pay $79.99.

Not paying attention to something generally causes you to miss events, not imagine that they have occurred.

With that title, I thought you were going to gift me the Hornet. The Hornet is a true multi-role fighter that can switch from attacking surface targets to engaging air targets with the press of a button. Yes, but A-A engagement effectiveness is already reduced due to limited A-A radar modes and missile availability. Also, no A-G mode at all. Equally at home on an aircraft carrier or airfield, the Hornet is equipped with a large suite of sensors that include radar, target pod, and a helmet mounted sight. None of which will be available on early access. Well, maybe the A-A radar, and even then, not all of it. In addition to its internal 20mm cannon, the Hornet can be armed with large assortment of unguided bombs and rockets, laser- and -GPS-guided bombs, air-to-surface missiles of all sorts, and both radar- and infrared-guided air-to-air missiles. Dumb bombs only on early access. DCS World provides the most rich and authentic digital battlefield for the Hornet to fly in. LOL, wut? Realistic model of the F/A-18C, down to each bolt I guess this takes rivet-counting to a whole new level! Detailed simulation of the Hornet’s many systems like engines, fuel, electrical, hydraulic, radios, lighting, emergency, and many, many more Yessss!!! Enjoy accurate "deedle-deedle" implementation as you wait for your A-G radar, AIM-120B/C, and guided munitions! Virtually all the weapons and sensors that a mid-2000s US Navy F/A-18C operates Coming whenever we can be bothered to take the Hornet out of EA. Authentic Hornet sounds with assistance from Boeing I'm looking forward to this one. Let's see if they can make them sound more like fighter jets and less like airlines. New effects like over-wing vapor No sim is complete without over-wing vapors!!! Oh, you wanted A-G radar? Sorry, we ran out of time implementing that coz we were too busy with "deedle-deedle" and LEX vapors! Is this still really a "feature" in 2018??? During the Early Access period, the following items will be added to DCS: F/A-18C Hornet:
New and updated sensors to include air-to-ground radar, additional air-to-air radar modes, Joint Helmet Mounted Cueing System (JHMCS), Link-16 Datalink, and targeting pod. New weapons such as Harpoon, HARM, Shrike, Maverick, JSOW and SLAM, SLAM-ER missiles, Walleye, laser- and GPS-guided bombs, sea mines, fire bombs, TALD decoys, and AIM-9X and AIM-120 air-to-air missiles. Additional display pages like the Situational Awareness, Flight Performance Advisory System, and Automatic Carrier Landing pages. I'm glad they put this up on the spiel..... and I notice they've not put a timeframe on this. I guess Matt no longer gives estimates, but what's stopping him from giving promises on this one? Pre-purchase now for $59.99 and save $20 from the Early Access release price of $79.99. We plan Early Access DCS: F/A-18C Hornet to be available for download by the end of Spring 2018. This is something I'm actually torn about.... do I buy now and experience the fiasco for myself as it happens? Or do I continue to let others be the guinea pigs and wait 2-3 years after EA and buy this module on a 50%-off sale? By that time, most of the bugs will be ironed out (hopefully) and A-G, Link-16, guided munitions, and other goodies will be implemented (hopefully), and there may even be a campaign or two to play with.... we will see. Luckily, it seems that I'll have a few projects on my hands this year so I may not even notice the year going by.... BTW, is this going to have the BS keyless system like in the Harrier? Seems like no mention of it on the newsletter....

I am guessing that the new system is intended to be applied to all future modules. Hopefully, they will have settled on an offline solution in the months before the release. Of course, by specifying Spring, 2018, they did not specify the hemisphere. The end of spring in the southern half of the planet won't occur until December.

They should probably clarify this in their description somewhere, as not everyone may be aware of the stunt they pulled with the Harrier and the DRM.

Hello Everyone, I am waiting. Reason:
Following the early access release, we plan to include many more sensors, weapons, and decoys for the final product. Please note that this list is also subject to change:
Sensors: A/A radar with TWS, SCAN RAID, AZ/EL A/G radar with MAP, EXP1, EXP2, EXP3, SEA, GMT, PVU, AGR, IRA, and TA AN/ASQ-228 ATFLIR Targeting Pod Joint Helmet Mounted Cueing System (JHMCS) Link-16 AWW-13 Datalink Pod Weapons: AGM-88C HARM AGM-45A/B Shrike AGM-84D Block 1C Harpoon AGM-84E SLAM AGM-84H SLAM-ER AGM-65E Maverick AGM-65F/G Maverick AGM-154A JSOW AGM-154C JSOW Walleye I ER/DL Walleye II ER/DL GBU-10 Paveway II GBU-12 Paveway II GBU-16 Paveway II GBU-24B/B Paveway III GBU-38 JDAM GBU-31 JDAM GBU-32 JDAM AIM-9X Sidewinder AIM-120B/C AMRAAM Mk-40 Destructor Sea Mine Mk-63 Quickstrike Sea Mine Mk-77 Fire Bomb
Decoys: ADM-141 TALD GEN-X
Once those features are confirmed, implemented and, working correctly, that is the Hornet I will gladly pay for. Could be weeks, months, years. Also, no mention of what DRM the F/A-18C will have. I have been waiting since Jane's F-18 (1999), I can wait longer while enjoying a full featured A-10C Happy Simming, Monnie

Remember guys... the newsletter said this: Pre-purchase now for $59.99 and save $20 from the Early Access release price of $79.99. We plan Early Access DCS: F/A-18C Hornet to be available for download by the end of Spring 2018. That is very clearly an estimate, not a PROMISE!

If they know how to do anything, it's awesome teaser videos. The ones for the Viggen were quite cool as well. However, notice that it didn't give anything away.... we saw bombs dropping but no sign of A-G radar. We saw carrier ops but are these the new carriers or the old ones? I didn't notice if any of the A-A engagements involved the -120.

Did they not get Glowing_Amraam to do the official videos a while back?

If I wasn't so awestruck by his videos, I could swear it's well within false advertising territory There is a disclaimer, with regard to sounds, at the beginning of some of his videos. I rarely bother to watch them since they don't, typically, show me the sim that I will be getting.

His videos are always amazing, for sure. I have to constantly remind myself that I don't experience the same level of excitement when I play (some due to DCS's lack of immersion, some due to pilot capability as well...).

Yeah they are pretty aren't they, but like all movies, it's a process of editing lots of stuff to make it look a way that appeals to the eye (and ears..... the sounds FX always bugs me though, in general sound in Sim's has been fairly average when compared to the visuals)

Wow. Could you possibly get any more toxic and cynical? Why do you even bother commenting on the sim if you're just going to do nothing except #%&*$# on every single aspect? I don't mind the "toxic and cynical" bit.... but please point out where we're wrong on what we've said. If you want all rainbows and unicorns, go to the ED forums. "#%&*$# on every single aspect"? LOL, that's ED's doing. because they've been banned from the other forums that got tired of hearing it. you'd think they'd just move on to a new sim and leave things alone but.. i'm not going to pre-purchase the f-18, or at least not until it's much more clear that release is imminent. end of spring 2018 is a very ambiguous and distant release date. FYI, I'm not banned over there. Also, the "other forums" have not gotten "tired" of hearing it. Suppression and censorship, more like. Ban members and purge threads just because you're "tired of hearing it"?? Ha! gosh thats some real constructive criticism there fellas, really promotes an atmosphere of discussion Feel free to show us where ED listened to constructive criticism? Have ED decided on a new "phone home" timeframe yet? No? Feel free to show us where ED listened to constructive criticism. now excuse me while I go play a multitude of high fidelity hornet sims like Jane's F/A-18... oh doesn't work on win10. Strike Fighters 2? Pretty but missing some necessary features.... BMS? a pig in a dress is still a pig. Seven-G demo? nice to fly in but thats it. VRS Superbug? Gorgeous... but you're still flying in a civilian aircraft simulator world, lol. Obviously, your expectations are.... different. Also, please feel free to elaborate how BMS is a pig. This should be good. Maybe BMS also has crappy 1999 graphics?? Was the A-10C not a high fidelity digital combat simulator? Yes... now please show us where we're complaining about DCS A10C?

Ok, I take it back. I just had a post deleted explaining what the situational awareness display in the Hornet looks like because it was either "off-topic" or "already explained" ??? talk about absurdly excessive moderation Might be time to revisit your posts in this thread Now try asking them about A-G radar.....

As you are well known expert in the field of flight sims, with a great attitude, could you rank the Sims you prefer or think are the best. You seem down on DCS, but I see fairly recently you created new interface for BMS, so is that your fav? It really depends on what you're looking for. Experienced simmers or others may look for a dynamic campaign to keep them on their toes all the time... new simmers may prefer a more sterile or scripted mission in order to test their methods or reaction times. My dissatsfaction with ED has more to do with how they are developing the game. New user and interested in ground-pounding? DCS A10C is a very good module. Want some multi-role action? BMS. So what is the best? "it depends" I abandoned BMS because of lack of multi-monitor support...unless using touchscreen like yourself, but systems are dynamic you seem to keep pace! What do you mean? I've played BMS on multi-screens for ages. I used SoftTH years ago when using different-sized monitors, when upgrading to 3x 27" monitors, I simply combine them in Eyefinity/Surround and the new resolution (5896x1080, bezel corrected resolution) is recognized by BMS. I have to dig into some files to fine-tune my FOV (120-130 works best in my case) and adjust the view-down limits so I can see the cockpit properly, and I'm done. If you need more help with BMS, post in the Falcon sub-forum here and I'm sure you'll get all the help you need Here's a shot of BMS in multiple screens

Nice setup!
Thanx, yes I wasnt clear!
The multi-monitor is fine for merely viewing the display, but not for interacting with the app, wasnt possible to use the mouse on an extended monitor.
OT Do you use Voiceattack or similar app.....I love it, very flexible.

The multi-monitor is fine for merely viewing the display, but not for interacting with the app, wasnt possible to use the mouse on an extended monitor. Still not sure what you mean.... the app? Helios? I use touchscreens for that. IIRC, you can use it in DCS by using mouse on another monitor but due to how BMS implements the mouse cursor, it's not feasible to do so with the program. OT Do you use Voiceattack or similar app.....I love it, very flexible. I have Voice Attack, VAC, and a couple other programs. Had issues with VA, VAC was more reliable, so I use that for radio comms. Did you measure the angle from the top down view to determine the FOV? I saw your vdo on youtube, you have a blog somewhere!? FOV is set so that I have a roughly to-scale HUD. I have a blog but it's more for my Helios profile, really. Thanks Tom! Sweet setup Ice. What do you have running that? I see a TrackIR receiver, you still use TrackIR with that? Thanks! Single 980Ti. I do need the TrackIR for dogfighting Can't really check six or engage in a turning fight even with that view.
