P-51D Petie 3rd over heavy snow Ardennes map in QMB. (retextured map mod by cyberolas)On the morning of 1 Jan 45, Petie 3rd flown by Lt. Col. John C. Meyer, was first to takeoff as the Fw190's and Bf109's began the attack on airbase Y-29. P-51's of the 487th FS quickly took off under fire and their ensuing major air battle that day came to be known as the Legend of Y-29. For their extraordinary heroism in combat, the 487th Fighter Squadron was awarded the Distinguished Unit Citation. seediffy

The 352nd FG started to repaint their blue noses with RAF Deep Sky paint in the autumn of '44. It was a darker blue than the medium blue used before. P-51D Petie 3rd profile P-51D Moonbeam McSwine profile seediffy

I sold my copies of the IL-2 1946 series a few years ago. I see pictures like this and I'm seriously considering repurchasing. I think I saw it on Steam for seven dollars.

Wonderful screens of the most graceful warbird ever made. Many of those contemporary designs approach art springing from utilitarianism.
I'd say "most beautiful airplane" but the Hughes H-1 holds that title for me. It was a tragedy when the precise replica and it's pilot were lost. The plane could be written off but the pilot was not replaceable.
What kind of car is that? What does it matter? When I drive it, I'm Steve McQueen
