Or, as it was formally called by the Soviets, "The Manchurian Strategic Operation." August of 1945. The Russians declare war on Japan and in a massive blitzkreig- like attack, overrun Japanese forces in Manchuria. What a great way to get Japanese airplanes into the sim. No carriers to have to worry about building. And it would make use of already developed resources. The Russian planeset would be the very late war versions of some existing planes like the Yak-9. And a new one would be added. How about the P-63 as a collector plane. It was used against the Japanese in this attack. The Japanese planes would be Army types. Sorry about that Zero fans. But, hey, you'd have the Ki-84 Hiyate. That would probably be the collector plane. The Shoki was another one that Japan operated there. Also the Oscar. The Ki45 was flown in the battle, too, for the guys who like the twin engined types like the BF-110. This is very doable. Opinions are welcome (Ha! Try and stop them!). I'd love this. Would really like to see how my Mustang would stack up against the Hiyate. I'd love to see this happen.

Wheelsup, when I was reading about this offensive, I thought, "Wow, wouldn't that be a great campaign for IL-2. Let me go and see if anybody else thinks so." And.....crickets. Until you. Are we the only two who think this would work? It'd be a perfect compromise to the Pacific plan. Uses existing resources AND gets us some Japanese planes. I like it, too.

No crickets here. I've thought about this scenario too. Also Philippines battles without carriers (vol 1) would work. Plenty of US Army aircraft (Bong, Travis campaigns) and IJA. And yet another... Korea with La7 and 9, Po2, F51, Corsair, Seafury, even a heli or two. https://www.militaryfactory.com/aircraft/korean-war-aircraft-index.aspCan use USN carriers like the US Hornet and Essex which was used in mid to late pacific. Basically use the assets created in Korea sim for PTO.

Yes. And while I'm glad that gx007 likes the idea, I think he missed my point. No carriers. No Phillipines, no Korea. I'm talking about something they could get out easily. How hard could a Manchuria map be? Not much different than some of the Russian terrain they've already done. Doing research on the four Japanese planes would be the hardest part of the project, it seems to me. And I'd love to see that P-63. There are about a half dozen still flying. Astronaut Frank Boreman took home a first place Warbird award for his at Oshkosh some years back. Maybe I should bring this up at the IL2 forum.

Pooch, I get it. No carriers to bog down development. I'm with your there. 1945 Manchuria might get 1C home market excited. They seem to have sway/favor over (eastern) map selection. Another map option is Gol (1939) with interesting plane and tank sets. May-August could be one map. Yes, no zeros but could test the waters. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battles_of_Khalkhin_Gol
