.
I can’t decide which I like more: The HP heavy bombers doing their work at 1,500’; the endlessly firing Lewis that never needs a drum change; the Alb V-Strutters that can out-maneuver Camels; the Harry Tate that is matching the Alb and the Spad 7 in a power dive; also the Camel that can keep up with the Alb in a power dive; the power dives in general; the Camel that makes a climbing left-hand turn in its own length; the “formation” flying; the long; backward smirking looks while flying straight and level as an enemy is firing away on their six. Really, there’s just so many to choose from. Historical accuracy at its cinematic best.
. In my opinion, the most remarkable thing about The Red Baron is how it manages to get more or less every single historical fact somehow wrong, including the personality of its protagonist, who has been transformed from a hard-boiled Prussian career officer into a 21st century anti-military liberal. I've only watched the film once. Never again!

I REALLY disliked this film. Very much. Yes, the CGI airplanes were over the top, for sure. But the story! God Almighty. It wasn't even about Richthofen! Brown and MvR becoming friends!?? WTF! Roy Brown escorting Manfred's "girlfriend" across the lines so she could be at his funeral? They didn't get his personality down at all. He was not a lady's man. All who knew him said that he was rather shy (if that's the right word) around women. His brother Lothar was the Lathario. He was a womanizer and a drinker. As a matter of fact, he was killed after the war in a plane crash with a famous German actress. They reversed the two personalities and made Lothar the hard assed Prussian. Why!? Richthofen was too much of a proud German to have ever told the Kaiser that the war was lost. Terrible picture. The true story of the man has yet to be made. This surely wasn't it.

I liked the look of airplanes in all those scenes. They did put a good effort into them. The only thing they got right, was to show that most of those Pilots where young men. Yes, though Werner Voss who was 20 is played by Til Schweiger who was 43 at the moment of filming.

Just my 2 cents : I support any effort towards WWI, Airplanes and Cowboy films. I have sat thru them all and brought the DVD;s. The only sad part that I know of is the things that they could have done. Imagine GCI ( CGI ? ) slowed down to the proper a/c speed and capabilities. Or the use of all the a/c mock ups or The Correct Story lines for The Baron or Blue Max. Maybe Morer Wild West friendly like film Tombstone that pushes all the Wild West Hoo Ha ! Not necessarily , the Real Truth ( Johnny Ringo meeting Doc Holiday in the Saloon scene ) or maybe Non-stereotype enemy pilots than the Hollywood Hardcore German Airman Type in Tuskegee Airmen film. Oh well, the might have been !

What about 'Lanoe Hawker' - depicted as an overweight screaming bearded psycho, flying an SE5 with the fuselage marking of a French Spad 13 Escadrille!!
