Hi all,

Seeing that there's now the major first TF update available of CLOD, would someone be so kind and tell me how much fun I can get out of it offline?

I haven't really done a flightsim since about half a year after RoF released, but I do get the occasional itch to get back into a nice detailed cockpit and shoot stuff. BoB is a theatre I can identify with, and the visuals and technical details look gorgeous. However I'm worried about some of the Youtube videos I see where the enemy AI appears to be more target drone than Ace Fighter Pilot.

Grateful for any input,

cheers

RS

What I can tell is this 4.50 BLITZ update don't change the SP part of the game, unless be making AI gunners more effective and re-enabling the "Gunner Fear" - if plane are manoeuvring above some G the AI gunner stop to fire and human player gunner MG lock.

This "feature" was very annoying in early versions - a small up or down movement lock the gunner making that in SP one barely could use MG in AI controlled bombers, since they fly "fishing" when fighters are near.

This "gunner fear" was disable by TF in 4.3 and now re-enabled for 4.50, but seems now the G value are adjusted for more realistic number.

In terms of SP contend nothing new was added in BLITZ, in fact was reduced due copyright issue with the semi-dynamic campaign generator available in 4.312 and removed in 4.50.
And the people that use make SP contend for CloD, e.g. Heinkil, Bolox... are "MIA", actually basically only Cybermat47 are done some SP missions (check ATAG).

Seems that things for CloD - despite the gigantic TF work - it's starting to be "too little, too late".

It's not a major financial risk to try it. There are a number of single player missions still available at the ATAG site. TFS have promised to work on AI behavior for the next patch 5.0, which we will have to pay for, but I'm sure those changes and fixes will be retroactive to Blitz Version 4.5. They had to draw the line somewhere on what to address with this patch, or we'd have been waiting another year. Still has the best "feeling of flight" of any of them, IMHO.

Yes, the feeling of really flying is there. It does it VERY well. I have IL-2 Bodenplatte on pre-order and I'm wondering if it's going to be as good.
On line flying is so real, to me, that I honestly feel "This is what it must have been like" when I'm on the ATAG server. Last night I took off with some guys who were patrolling above a convoy of ships in the Channel. I see splashes near the ships. Stukas. My flight dives, I dive with them. I take a squirt at a few and I lose my flight. I see somebody and go to form up. It's a 109!!!! They have an escort. Never saw them. Suddenly I'm hit and I start to maneuver like crazy. He overshoots me and I get a quick shot at him and I'm hit by another one. I jump and I'm in the channel.
It just feels so real. I was at a disadvantage because I don't have Teamspeak installed. Have to do that. Maybe someone could have warned me about those bandits at my six if I'd been plugged in. Good sim.

I don't know if the campaigns have been tweaked but generally I used to find off-line a bit boring.
My great experiences were in co-ops with ai/real people. Always used to amaze me how some people simply wouldn't see you or would stall out and crash, conversely the flying along quite happily enroute and suddenly absolute chaos as an enemy flight dive through your formation, great times.

I think the folks at TFS are trying to contact the dynamic campaign designer known as "the Enlightened Florist" about integrating his campaign software into the game. I haven't tried it myself, but I've heard good things about it.
I have mostly been creating "dogfight" style missions to fly online with friends. It is close to the old Il2 "co-op" style missions, in that you can include AI controlled aircraft. My understanding is that true co-op doesn't work at the moment.

The "Co-op" concept may varies... but since is possible fly with other players against AI, or against AI+Players, the "true co-op" is possible in CLoD, alias used in online wars like HRCODWAR.

When I say "true co-op" I mean what we had with the old Il2. Online missions in which human and AI could play side by side, in which humans could also direct the actions of AI flights.
