========== "A World War II naval drama scripted by and starring actor Tom Hanks will film in Baton Rouge in early 2018...Pre-production began Monday, and filming aboard the USS Kidd and at other Baton Rouge locations is expected to start in March. Filming in Louisiana is estimated at 161 days." ==========
This is making big news here today.

========== It is August first, 1945 Hunter's Point Naval Shipyard San Francisco. The KIDD is just completing repairs following the April 11 Kamikaze hit that killed thirty- eight of her crew off Okinawa. It is before the days of television, plastic, OSHA, and warning labels on everything. It is back when personal safety was a matter of alertness and common sense. The KIDD is a 1945 ship, so exercise caution as you visit. It is six days before the dropping of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima. Most of the crew are ashore enjoying their last stateside liberty. The remainder are readying the ship for the War's final campaign. The Invasion of Japan. Over three hundred and fifty ships were sunk or damaged at Okinawa, and rumor has it that the Invasion of Japan will make Okinawa like a Sunday picnic. ==========
I've been itching to go back, to have nothing else on the daily itinerary so that I can really take my time in the Museum and on the ship.

If Tom Hanks is in it, this should be a very good film indeed. I'll be seeing it for sure.

Great news! Nice to hear a real ship has at least something to do with it. I wonder if they’re using it for interior scenes or some kind of frame story like Arlington in SPR? 161 days is a significant amount of time.
And yes, a 161 day shooting schedule is very long. Most of your big budget summer movies only have about a 90 day shooting schedule.

The last update I read this past summer stated that the script was still being worked on.

I'm not much into movie theaters but I'll go see this one when it comes out, for the local aspect.

The Hanks film, I thought this was going to be about a British DD in WWII.... has anyone ever heard Hanks do a British accent?

Without knowing a single thing about this film, I already know that it's going to be better than "Indianapolis: Men of Courage." If it's nothing but two hours of that Destroyer sitting in the harbor, it would be better.

LOL! Nicholas "can't turn down any acting job because I owe Uncle Sam money" Cage wasn't enough to save that one.

Ya ...I'm a bit confused as well. The last that I heard was that Mr. Hanks was doing a film about an RN destroyer......maybe they figured that a film about a USN ship would make more money. Either way I look forward to it. If we are supremely lucky there will be two films

Yeah, I can't find any details to shed light on that confusion.

I heard that a handful of American sailors disguised as British sailors sneak onto a RN destroyer, steal said destroyer and then disguised as German sailors infiltrate a German destroyer that then sinks Bismark.* Plus on their journey they stole an enigma machine or something.

Yep, I follow the screenwriter on twitter, he's still working on it, we unfortunately won't see this mini-series anytime soon.... Maybe late 2019 at the earliest.

The one major celebrity my wife wishes she could meet in person, hoping that she might casually run into him while walking the streets of NYC. But while we're there, he'll be here.
I already want to go back to the USS Kidd.
