just on a technical level about his predicament before he falls - even if he had the strength to pull himself up there appears there is nothing for him to grab at the top edge to use to pull himself up and no ledge he can place his feet on to give him leverage to move his body in that direction

Pure idiocy. My only sympathies are for the people who had to deal with the aftermath.

then at least it was real quick - i wish i understood the psychology of these people - what is it that makes them lose all fear of heights, of falling and of dying

There was only 16 squadrons of RAF fighters that used 100 octane during the BoB. The Fw190A could not fly with the outer cannon removed. There was no Fw190A-8s flying with the JGs in 1945.

I'm sometimes guilty of the stuff mentioned on that link, even if my only online participation is here at SimHQ. I've asked my wife to keep her phone put away when we're out and about (which she gladly does), yet I'm the one who keeps saying, "Gimmy your phone, I've gotta get a pic of this!" Usually at a concert or some other event that I want to post about here (I don't do video). I'm always the one who takes the occasional selfie before a show or event, and most people pics. I remember at the airshow back in April, during the Blue Angels performance, my wife asked me, "Are you actually enjoying the show?" So she's gotten onto me about pulling out her phone camera too often (usually fighting with it ) instead of just taking in the moment, something I need to work on. But even if I didn't post about it here, I'd still want to have some kind of record of it to enjoy when I'm 90, sitting in my rocking chair (just as I enjoy looking at old photo albums today). Saving a pic-heavy thread with lots of notes allows you to archive a small diary of an event which is pretty cool to reflect on years later. I guess too much of that is social media abuse.

At least he died doing what he loved. I disagree. I highly doubt he loved plunging to his death. If I die in a crash of my Nieuport, don't write such stuff like that about me. I love flying it, and landing safely. Wrecking it is not something I love to do. I know what the sentiment is, but...

They always start with""I see you took a cruise with us in the past"
Only cruise I ever went on was 1970 on a U.S. Navy ship in the Med as a Marine. Somali Cruise is the worst.
