I took my first "flight" in it Sunday. Began with it clean and just enjoyed buzzing around. I did notice it's FBW feel, but not exactly on rails. If any trim was input, it drifted naturally and had to be retrimmed. Mine had a slight left roll, but it could have been my stick out of cal.
Fuel burn clean was really efficient. Loaded, I was constantly looking at the gauge and watching it tick down.
I couldnt get the bombing function to work (my fault), so I did STOL and VSTOL landings, plus a go at aerial refueling.
For Early Access, I'm impressed with it's functionality. A few things missing I'm surprised at, but overall, pretty good out of the box. In V/R its a tight fit to reach the rear consoles, assuming like the real jet.
I've been flying the Harrier since release day and I haven't enjoyed a sim this much in years. Just make sure you have a sensitive joystick to make micro changes in your throttle percentage for hovering, it took me 4 days and I can hover it , spin it, put it where I want it pretty good now. And that took many many hours of practice. I like to do a mission with some AAA and sams added to test out the side arms , then a load of AgM65K's to take out the tanks and armor, then do cannon runs on the lighter targets. What a blast. Come back and STOL land at 3000 lbs gas left, put the top back and hover to parking ( not realistic but sure is cool)
I know there's a whole lotta #%&*$#' about DCS and it's buisiness practices, but they do make beautiful models. I just watched a guy on You Tube, flying it on the Las Vegas map. Looked really good. Won't be getting it, but gotta admit it's purty.
"From our orbital vantage point, we observe an earth without borders, full of peace, beauty and magnificence, and we pray that humanity as a whole can imagine a borderless world as we see it, and strive to live as one in peace." Astronaut William C. McCool RIP, January 29, 2003 - Space Shuttle Columbia
Pooch, I think you're making a mistake by holding off on this one.
The harrier is just so much fun to fly. If you have any heli flying time you will be able to fly it and hover it right away, if not then it will take some practice.
I do hope they upgrade the sounds a little bit - it sounds alright but I think they need more recordings of the engine at various power and nozzle settings, it sounds as if they have tried to stretch one sound file over too broad a power spectrum. At the moment there only appears to be 2 or 3 main sound samples with the main sample covering the lower 60 or 70% of the engine thrust range. Unfortunately this sample sounds like it was taken either at a low power setting or from very far from the aircraft. Does not sound very jet like.
I don't have the Harrier and I don't have DCS installed to test, so can someone verify... maybe even make a video?

So, I decided to put my feelings for the DCS AV8B flight model away for a few minutes and take it out for a spin again. I discovered the following:
1. Spawn the LHA Tarawa and set it with forward speed (lets say 20kt) 2. Spawn your Harrier on the Tarawa. 3. Apply wheel brakes 4. Enjoy the spectacle of seeing your Harrier defy all laws of physics, slow down to 0 KIAS, go backwards and fall off the stern of the boat
Seriously. Between the lack of yaw/roll coupling and this... Is there anybody still defending that RAZBAM's FM/physics are somehow realistic?
That is not a problem with the harrier, it is a known problem with ship behavior and AFM aircraft. It happens with helicopters as well and has been a bug for a looooong time. ED is probably going to fix it with the release of the F18 and Su33 AFM.

Helis work fine on ships IF speed of ship is 10knots or slower

"Folks, I understand that you are anxious for news about the updates that are scheduled for the M-2000C. Despite the AV-8B NA taking precedence in all our work schedule, the M-2000C has not been forgotten and several improvements are ready to be deployed as soon as we are able to do so..."
Way to go RAZ - Mirage was released and sold .. what 2 years ago? I'm glad you decide to fix it after fixing the Harrier. So kind of you.
Give a man fish and he gets food, give a man a fishing rod and he asks for another one.
As mentioned earlier, I wanted to bring you some news on this subject by week’s end. Over the past week we’ve been discussing this matter in-depth to find the best compromise of making the protection as unobtrusive as possible, while at the same time protecting our property from theft. It’s safe to say that we will be making some changes, but they are not final and we’d like to postpone announcing them until we are sure of them.
Once we have finalized our keyless protection plans, we promise to inform you.
They didn't think of making their DRM unobtrusive before? Or did they think 3 days was unobtrusive?
They will be making some changes, but they won't tell us until they are sure of their changes? Way to say something without really giving information. Maybe they should've postponed announcing this DRM until they were sure of it. Knee-jerk reaction then deal with the fallout later. Way to go, ED!
Im still wondering why those leading this dcs product wont notice how much bad they make, when they wont think twice before relasing news and info about new DRM and then take step or two back when they get community mad.. ?? Looks like nobody controls these news letters ?? Dcs is potential product but its out of control.
Third party products should be meet some quality / timeline rules , now everybody makes jet or two and wont fix bugs before next one. But yeah, this is just normal in Russia... :/
Exactly what we've been wondering for 5 years or more....
Also, I don't think ED can impose strict quality and timeline rules to their third-party partners seeing as ED themselves can't meet their own quality and timeline goals..... assuming they even set those goals to begin with.
