After reading the book "Stuka Pilot", I was keen to try this in IL-2 BOS.
So I downloaded the correct skin that Rudel flew, and loaded up the 37 mm (1.5 in) BK 37 cannon...
Takeoff was a bit harder with the added weight and aerodynamics of the BK 37s...
Ruski tanks in sight!
Rolling in:
Coming in from the sun:
Firing cannons!
Hits on target, although for this first pass, I fired a bit too early, and attacked the side of the tank rather the more vulnerable top or rear.
On my remaining passes I came in from behind the tanks, hitting the more lightly armoured top and rear aspects, leading to more success. Ruski tanks left burning and smouldering on the plains:
Successful RTB!

Awesome and fun but they don't shoot back. (In EAW since1.28E you would likely be shot down since all tank columns have effective aaa and the Stuka is low and slow) I wouldn't have much wanted to fly a Stuka in R/L. Can just imagine Hans-Ulrich Rudel must have had a time of it!

He did get his leg shot off I believe.

Rudel was also shot down 12 times but never by an enemy fighter. It was always anti-aircraft fire.
